CHICAGO — Widespread damage is reported in downtown Chicago after looting and rioting began around midnight.
Witnesses report hundreds of people smashing their way into stores throughout Michigan Avenue, areas in the South Loop and the near North Side.
WGN’s Judy Wang was on the scene early and reported seeing people filling trash bags with merchandise. She also saw crowd trashing the streets outside the stores and turning over garbage cans.
2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins told WGN he witnessed people driving up in vehicles, smashing windows of stores on Michigan Avenue and grab items and drive away.

She expects people to drop a dime on perps the DA’s office will refuse to prosecute.

So many childhood memories of getting fancied up to go shopping downtown.
Marshal Fields just had to be seen to be understood—marble everywhere, generous use of gold and glass without being gaudy..
And, the city, along with the merchants in the Loop, knew how to do Christmas. As a child, of course, it was pure magic.
I’m a writer, so the main library downtown was paradise. Like most authors, I’m a voracious reader. The library itself was magnificent, it seemed huge to me back then. And very special.
The riding school I went to was next door to Lincoln Park. It was in the early stages of becoming off-limits. But, it’s a beautiful park. The area did gentrify, thankfully. I hope it holds together.
Look what they have done to my city.
IOW: They had a heads up and didn’t raise the damn bridges.
‘Back in the day’ my BFF and I would take the train from Milwaukee down to Chicago and spend a long weekend in Chicago, shopping on The Miracle Mile and dining and just having a fabulous time.
This really breaks my heart to see, and even though I miss her every DAY, I’m glad she’s not alive to see this. :(
I’m also glad I’ll probably be gone before we have Full Frontal Communism in America. Oh, I’ll fight it while I can, but I’m no longer certain we’re going to win this one. :(

I can just picture the sights and sounds.
I’m thankful I was able to visit (and, shop!!), in the city/Magnificent Mile, long before the current downturna and destruction.
What fun memories I have of that city.
Nothing, compared to your childhood memories....but, good memories, just the same.
And, the people were very friendly, unlike the cold glares, from NYCers.
I guess for some there, it will become Escape from Chicago

These large mobs of black looters became emboldened during the Obama Regime. I do not remember these types of incidents before Obama. I lump them in with the black wilding attacks against whites and the black mob attacks in malls. These are a nationwide occurrence. Even (large mobs of fighting blacks) happened in nearest mall to me in a suburb. This is today’s black culture.
