Looking ahead to the general election, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is calling for extending the period for states to choose presidential electors.
Rubio is championing a bill “to extend the federal safe harbor period for states to determine electors from December 8, 2020 to January 1, 2021 for this year’s presidential election” insisting it “would give states the flexibility needed in a pandemic to help ensure each and every legal vote cast is counted.” Rubio’s proposal would also have electoral college members cast their votes on January 2, 2021 instead of December 14.
Pointing to hostile powers–namely China and Russia–Rubio warned about foreign interference in the upcoming election.
“We cannot escape the pandemic-induced reality of increased mail-in voting, and the logistical challenges associated with it will be difficult for some states to resolve in the next couple of months,” Rubio insisted. “We should give states the flexibility to provide local election officials additional time to count each and every vote by moving the federal safe harbor deadline for states from December 8 to January 1.
“But it gets worse,” he continued. “Local election officials in critical swing states like Pennsylvania, which saw a 17-fold increase in mail-in ballots for its June primary, are warning that, absent changes, ‘there is no way anybody can responsibly call the presidential race in November.’
Beijing and other hostile foreign actors would throw their full weight behind a misinformation campaign, complete with falsified evidence, asserting that the results are rife with fraud and the election is in the process of being ‘stolen.’ They would use unassuming, but fake social media accounts to spread and magnify allegations that some mail-in ballots are being removed from the post office and destroyed, while others are falsified.

Rubio will not get my vote. I can’t understand his positions when he “runs” as a Republican.
Little Marco will never get higher than he is now and I don’t see how he achieved the office he holds now.
Rubio has made the calculation that it would be easier for a Republican (he hopes himself) to win in 2024 if a Democrat is the President going into that election. Ergo, he is trying to make it easier for Trump to lose in 2020. This guy can’t be trusted as far as you can throw him. Dangerous individual putting his self interest above the country. Throw Nikki Haley in the same boat.
All Trump has to do is win 270 in solid red states to make it a moot point; or, even LESS if the Dems mess up blue states and they don't have the votes ready by the deadline.
If the Dems screw up both California and New York, Trump only has to win 226 EV to become President.
Not exactly. The Constitution lets Congress set the date that the Electors vote and submit their tallies to Congress.
Article II Section 1 Clause 3:
The Congress may determine the Time of chusing the Electors, and the Day on which they shall give their Votes; which Day shall be the same throughout the United States.
Clause 2 was superseded by the 12th amendment, but not clause 3.

It sounds like where I went astray is that the designated December date is not fixed by the Constitution but instead by statute. This being the case Congress could change the statute. However, a statute change if it would pass would have to be able to be able to muster a veto over ride number of votes.
Any votes NOT counted 24 hours after the election will NOT be counted... Period.

Foreign citizens, whether legally or illegally in the US are not eligible to vote in Federal elections.
States that are mass mailing ballots and allow harvesting are aiding and abetting fraud. ....The DNC loves it.
The thing is, Congress doesn't have to act at all. The states already have the power to act independently.
Rubio is misinterpreting the problem. It's not about "giving" the Electoral College more time to vote -- that's just a stall to let the states have more time to count the mailed-out ballots. It's about letting the state legislatures solve the problem themselves by convening a special session to vote to appoint the Electors when and if the time limit approaches and there is no settled count.
The power of the state legislatures to choose the method of selecting Electors is Supreme law of the land. No Rubio legislation can override that. Any state legislature that wants to can appoint their Electors directly, even if it is weeks before Rubio's January 1 date.

Two entirely different sides of the coin. State’s authority to determine how the electors are chosen and the date that the authorized electors formally vote in the College.
Two things were driving the Bush vs Gore recount in 1999 Florida recounts. One was the procedural aspect whereby Bush wanted whole state recount vs Gore’s push for cherry picked Democrat heavy counties. The second though was to conclude the process by the Electoral College deadline so as to have Florida’s Electoral votes counted at that step. Miss the deadline, not counted, Miss the deadline, not counted is the situation that is setup to happen with the mass absentee balloting this cycle, IMHO. That and fraudulently tilting some states from red to blue for not only the President but also Congress and state level offices.
Rubio is a pussy, plain and simple. Real men get a job done. Real men show no fear. Gawd. Voting is as simple as going down the street, walking into the polling place, showing an ID and casting a ballot. What is so difficult about that? What is so scary about that? I’m sick and tired of people making the simple complex. I’m sick and tired of people being afraid. That’s unAmerican. We’ve turned into a nation of a bunch of yellow belly cowards.
This would only happen if Congress passed a law that the President signs.
Elections are a state-by-state affair; there is no national election. There is only a uniform date for separate state voting. Beyond that, Democrats have sought to nationalize elections by dictating the process that all states must use.
Unless and until that happens, this mailed-out voting chaos would only affect the blue states that choose to do it. It will only hurt those blue states, since the red states will vote normally and get their tallies in on time.

The Democrats learned the lesson of "too big to fail."
Their strategy towards everything now is to make the problem stink so badly that nobody wants to go near it and everyone just wants it to go away.
To achieve that, the path of least resistance is to simply give in and give the Democrats what they want.
Democrats understand the psychology of "decent people," and use that to their personal advantage.

If Biden wins and the totalitarian Kamala Harris soon assumes the presidency, we can thank the GOP for allowing it to happen.
I’ve already decided not to vote in the congressional portion of the November election. I’ve had it with uni-party republicans.
