More rolling blackouts ordered in California amid power shortages and searing heat

New rolling blackouts in parts of California were ordered Saturday night as power shortages continued because of an extreme heat wave.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. said Saturday night it was beginning to rotate power outages affecting up to 250,000 customers in Northern and Central California. San Diego Gas & Electric said it also interrupted power to some customers but had restored all service by 7 p.m.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said 3,800 customers were without power late Saturday in the San Fernando Valley and it could be four to twelve hours before electricity is restored. The affected areas include West Hills, Arleta, Granada Hills and Studio City.

Southern California Edison issued a warning to customers that rotating power outages might be called in its Los Angeles County service area through midnight. It said outages could last up to one hour.

Earlier in the day, state regulators said they had expected to avoid further power interruptions through the weekend after some blackouts Friday.

The broiling conditions that began Friday may rival the deadly seven-day heat event of July 2006, the National Weather Service said.

Regulations caused this problem 100%.

CA public utilities are required to purchase all solar power generated by anyone at retail rates. And solar power equipment/installation has been subsidized by both the feds and the state.

Therefore there is no incentive to build new generation as it would only be generating revenue (paying down capital cost) at half time. After dark.

Then the sun goes down in a heat wave and it's nobody's fault.

Friggin' commies.

Rolling Blackouts? In a US state? Can you say Third World Banana Republic? Sure you can? How far the former Golden State has fallen. All under the watchful eye of the oh so caring and compassionate liberal, progressive democrats.
There is an old saying, The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions. The dems are paving their roads at a record pace. They are all going to hell and taking all who stay with them.

Why can Phoenix and Tucson manage to keep their power on when temps soar above 110?

Easy.

Their utilities are not required to purchase solar power from homes and businesses at RETAIL rates.

I am in LA Dept of Water and Power territory...No black out in my area yet...I don’t live in San Fernando Valley...

San Fernando Valley could really get hot...Not a good place to be at this time...

Venice and San Pedro areas are not too bad at this time...Close to the ocean...

I went though this last night.
Today, I was at ACE Hardware, shopping for battery operated lamps. I found two. Both styled to look like lanterns, but they run on LEDs.
I ordered a transistor radio from Walmart.
Will order a CD player too.
I have too much food already. Not worried about that.
Full pantries are a family tradition.

It's only going to get worse. Too much green & SJW influence on the gas & electric utilities in Cali. Soon the last nuke plant is going to shut down and the greenies are trying to get natural gas banned in the Bay Area.

The sad part is there is now a generation or 2 that has no idea they should’t have to put up with this crap and didn’t have to in the past. They think this is normal.

The solution is to build a half dozen nuke plants.

More and more everyday, Kalifornia looks like modern day Iraqi. And all Kalifornians and the entire US owe this to the Democrat party which is the new socialist Communist party of the United States!

Last month, I purchased an E+Ready Emergency Compact Crank Radio from Walmart.

With all of the craziness going on, I thought it may be a good idea, just in case antifa or some of the other terror groups committed a big terror attack.

It will also come in handy during hurricane season and the Fall and Spring Tornado Seasons here in Bama.

The radio includes AM/FM, Weather Alerts, Emergency Alerts and is battery, crank and solar powered.

It also includes a flashlight and can charge cell phones and tablets. I couldn’t resist that, lol. You can’t be too safe.

I have experienced a tornado that decimated my hometown and remember with horror the 2011 tornado outbreak, when 62 tornadoes tore through the State, including Tuscaloosa and Birmingham.

When Hurricane Harvey struck Texas, it brought tornadoes our way. One tornado literally tore through our back yard. My mother and I were in the Hall praying and panicking, lol.

I don’t blame you for purchasing all those items. It’s smart to be ready for any disaster.

You sound like me with the CD player and radio. I MUST have my music or I will go mad, lol. That’s why I have two portable chargers for my iPhone and iPad.

A couple of years ago, I purchased an expensive, fancy Shortwave radio from Amazon. Unfortunately, on the shortwave band, I can only pick up religious stations and Radio Havana, although Radio Havana can be interesting at times.
Another problem is that you almost have to be a computer programmer to work the radio because it’s so complicated.

As far as food is concerned, our pantries are ready to explode because we have so much canned food.

We also have the same LED lanterns. They have served us well.

I’m glad that you are staying safe and buying the necessary equipment.

Good luck.
