Mayor Giménez was attacked as insufficiently conservative and he decided to keep his focus on the general, soending very little money. 60-40 was closer than he expected, but a win is a win and now he has his full warchest for the general. This will not be an easy district for us to win back this year, but Mayor Giménez gives us our best shot at it.

We also go our best possiible candidate in FL-27 (Salazar). Now those two Cuban-American Republicans will get to fight it out against two Lebanese-American Democrats in those two traditionally Cuban districts. (Yes, Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who is originally from Ecuador, is Lebanese on her father’s side.)

Yes, I saw that. Have you been to Luna’s campaign website? The homepage shows a photo ofher in a tight-fitting camo outfit and there are large letters that say “BUILT” and underneath snaller letters that say “NOT BOUGHT.” I have to believe that it was an intentional play on words and that her campaign wants you to notice that she is “built.” : )

It’s probably best that Spano lost. That scandal is real.

He was dim to try that financing tactic.

You could be right. I’m more disappointed that Timothy Sullivan lost and Doug Shields won. Democrats wanted him. He is a RINO at best!!!!

"If Lummis’ husband (a former rat member of the state leg, they served there together) hadn’t died in late 2014 she probably wouldn’t have retired in 2016 and Cheney wouldn’t be there."

But Cheney would've run as soon as the seat opened. President Trump should've endorsed her opponent for this seat this year. She has to go.

He sounds as if he is, but you’re right, we can’t know for sure be ause he doesn’t have a track record at which we can look. That’s the downside to grass-roots candidates who’ve never served in public office. Hopefully he’ll beat Murphy in November and he can prove that his conservative issue positions weren’t just talk.

But he didn’t. And she’s (at this time) not going anywhere.

I hope someone more prominent opposes her in 2022.

>> And Kris Kobach is a big guy, so I don’t think anyone has ever told him to his face that he has a girl’s name. <<

When I first heard "Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach", I immediately assumed "FEMALE Sec. of State", until his photo showed me otherwise.

We had a similar election here in Illinois about a decade ago, where Winnebago County Secretary of State Kris Cohn was the GOP nominee against Democrat Jesse White for IL Secretary of State. 'Kris Cohn' is most definitely a lady, and I can't imagine anyone would be unsure of her gender from that name.

It's like how U.S. Congressman Bobby L. Rush is a dude, while Cook County Commissioner Bobbie L. Seale is most definitely a woman.

Other examples of "same pronunciation, different spelling" depending on the gender are Francis/Frances, Billy/Billie, Louis/Louise, and Daniel/Danielle.

Advice to parents naming your kids: spelling matters. :-)

Jesse (as in Jesse White, whom you mentioned) vs. Jessie is a better example of what you describe than is Chris vs. Kris.

“Chris” is short for Christopher (male), Christine/Christina (female) or Christian (formerly female, now male), and there always have been plenty of women nicknamed Chris (Chris Evert probably being the most prominent). In fact, I have a friend whose wife’s *given name* is Chris.

Similarly, “Kris” has always been a nickname (and more recently a given name) for both males and females. Remember, Christopher is spelled with a C in English, but the name’s cognates in many other languages (particularly those from Scandinavia) starts with a K: Kristoffer, Kristofer, Kristoffur, Kristofor, Kristofru or Khristophor in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Icelandic, Faeroese, Finnish, Croatian, Macedonian, Albanian, Maltese, Vietnanese, Russian and Azerbaijani; Kristoff, Kristof, Krzysztof or Krystof in Slovenian, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Estonian, Flemish, Polish, Breton, Haitian Creole and Turkish; and Kristobal in Basque. Kris Kristofferson’s paternal grandparents were from Sweden, so it was only natural for his dad to name him Kris with a K. And now we have Kris (given name) Kobach and Kris (short for Kristopher) Bryant , and there’s no going back.
