In bungling People vs. Jussie Smollett, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx lied to her clients — the public, special prosecutor Dan Webb said.
If you live in Cook County, that client is you. Foxx is betting you can't do anything about it.
With 38 days before voter start to cast ballots to decide the fate of her re-election bid, Foxx issued a public statement, tweeted her political spin and vanished to avoid questioning.
Foxx conveniently glossed over the report allegations that Foxx made a handful of false statements to the public after her office dropped 16 felony charges alleging that Smollett faked a hate crime against himself and lied to Chicago police about it.
Foxx's statement said her office had discussed the findings with Webb Monday — the same day Politico reported she paused her re-election campaign to spend time with her husband who is having surgery to treat prostate cancer.
A coincidence, of course.
None of Foxx's alleged fibs is more important than her February 2019 claim that she had recused herself from the case.
Why? Because Foxx didn't actually recuse herself, which I was the first to report. In response to my prodding in March 2019, Foxx's office tried to explain away the false and misleading statement saying that the top prosecutor had used the "colloquial" meaning of recuse, rather than the legal definition.
It's probably a safe bet that we won't hear from Foxx much as we inch closer to Election Day. She hasn't agreed to debate her Republican opponent, Pat O'Brien. She rarely makes public appearances to take questions from reporters. And doing either could only hurt her election bid, typically considered an assured victory for any Democrat who makes it out of the primary.
On Monday, O'Brien called for Foxx to resign.

Foxx will be re-elected with 75% of the vote - she is running against Patrick O’Brien a Republican who has not campaigned for one second or spent one dime on the election. The Chicago Cops are begging O’Brien to try and run against Foxx, but so far O’Brien has done nothing.
Foxx would have lost in the March Primary, but the Democrats split the vote three ways and allowed Foxx to win. It is the Crook County way...

The Police Sergeants union made a generous donation to O’Brien.
O’Brien has been speaking at fundraisers all this week and was interviewed on Chicago radio this morning. He was a guest on the Laura Ingraham Show and his name has appeared in the Chicago newspapers all week.
It is an uphill battle for a Republican nominee to prevail in Chicago and suburban Cook County, but it has been done occasionally. Given Foxx’s propensity for shooting herself in the foot and her decision to going into hiding ala Joe Biden, there is a remote chance that an upset could occur. Foxx barely managed 50% in the primary.
Democrats inhale, Democrats lie.

My guys in Beverly and Mount Greenwood are really disappointed in O’Brien. The Cops and some city workers are 100% behind him but don’t feel like he is putting out the effort needed to win.
He walked precincts in Ward 19 recently.
