The former Australian prime minister has warned of the growing risk of military conflict between China and the United States amid rising nationalism in both countries in the run-up to the US presidential election.

Kevin Rudd, who led Australia from 2007 to 2010 and again for three months in 2013, said on Thursday that a build-up of Chinese and US forces in the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait raised the possibility of a "conflict through miscalculation and escalation" ahead of the November 3 vote.

"There's a real danger that with a collapsing diplomatic relationship ... if you have an incident of a ship colliding with another ship, an aircraft colliding with another aircraft ... then you have a crisis," Rudd said.

A provocation should be followed by a complete embargo on Chinese shipping to the US. And if that doesn’t get it, then freeze Chinese assets here (since they own a pretty big chunk of the US as it is, we should simply take it back).

If this should happen then Trump would be a certified shoo in for re election. China has already said they “prefer” Biden to be President which doesn’t exactly instill confidence in his ability to deal with them harshly if necessary.

Not going to happen. China needs us more than we need them.

“Not going to happen. China needs us more than we need them.”

I think China is in bad shape with the Virus, Floods, and famine caused by locust and different pig/bird flu’s. China’s problems in 2020 are biblical. I think that the Dam could break soon then it will be biblical as it can get.

China is cutting back on food aid to North Korea now. North Korea is rounding up people’s pet dogs for food.

They are hiding all their problems from the world.

Would China CCP start a war to stay in power?

IIRC Rudd is a Labor Party PM...meaning leftist. I wonder if he could be considered a Trump hater like most of the West's "progressives".

This comment reminds me a bit of Obama's having urged the Brits to vote "remain" in their referendum. IIRC there were many in Britain who weren't pleased to have a foreigner...*any* foreigner...interfering in their politics.

And I don't want any foreigners interfering in ours!

With all China's problems as you stated above, I don't think so. I realize some countries have tried to alleviate their internal strife with a war that gears up production. I don't think China will because their crappy exports are diminishing due to American tariffs and now Covid. Without the West's huge purchasing, they might shrink back to their feudal days. They may try for a regional was against Taiwan, but then they have many nations that are now pissed at them for Covid-19. I think they will just devolve in power and just maybe the party will fall. Just IMHO.

“Would China (CCP) start a war to stay in power?”

They are under exceptional stress, and might view a Trump re-election as an existential threat.

I think a big factor, could also be internal CCP politics - Xi trying to keep control, and others seeing their opportunity.

Which eventuality prompted me to send this to POTUS.

Mr. President,
As the tension between China and US grows, so does the dreadful prospect of an attack on this country.
If that attack takes the form of a high altitude EMP device, the grid would be disabled for months or years if the large central transformers are destroyed. These very costly devices have manufacturing lead-times of a year or more and, thanks to the off-shoring you are so heroically and CORRECTLY attempting to reverse, WE NO LONGER MAKE THEM HERE! (I used to sell handling equipment to the GE plant in Rome, Georgia that manufactured smaller sub-station units. It has been shuttered for years.)
Our situation is exacerbated by the fact that the cost for these multi-million dollar devices is now borne by the various utilities who utilize them. Because they ARE so costly, to the best of my knowledge, nearly all of them have made the economic decision to NOT acquire and warehouse these units. (I am STILL attempting to ascertain if these utilities have invested in the far less costly SHIELDING of the existing devices from an EMP attack.)
As you probably know, even a few months of a blackout would make the death count of the recent COVID situation pale.
IF, for reasons of cost, the shielding of the existing system has NOT been undertaken by the individual utilities, it would make sense for the citizens to bear that cost on the basis that the aforementioned months-long blackout will almost certainly reduce the numbers of us who survive it.
And, in line with YOUR effort to make THIS country more self-sufficient, it might be wise to bring the manufacture of these larger devices back HERE!
Thank you for, unlike multiple previous occupants of the White House, putting AMERICA FIRST!
Gratefully,
Richard & Sharon Bachert (and our total extended TRUMP VOTING family)

Vietnam is hitting above their weight class in coordinating regional opposition to China.

Russia has declined sending China further advanced armaments. Russia increased arms R&D with India.

Russia is forming further trade ties to India, a part of which is the establishment of a mutually patrolled trade route along the east side of the so called China sea.

India’s Modi defacto acts as a liaison between Russia and the United States toward bringing the two, in essence, into cooperation against Chinese ambitions.
