A task force commissioned by the Washington, D.C., government has recommended renaming, relocating or adding context to dozens of monuments, schools, parks and buildings because of their namesakes' participation in slavery or racial oppression. Among the targets are the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial.
Some of the proposals in the report released Tuesday are definite non-starters, as many of the most prominent monuments and statues stand on federal land, outside D.C. government control. Still, the recommendations have already prompted fierce reactions amid an ongoing national debate over Americas racial history.
As long as President Trump is in the White House, the mayors irresponsible recommendations will go absolutely nowhere, and as the mayor of our Nations capital city a city that belongs to the American people she ought to be ashamed for even suggesting them for consideration, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in a statement Tuesday.
The task force, known as DCFACES (District of Columbia Facilities and Commemorative Expressions), was formed by Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser over the summer in the face of a nationwide wave of protests over police brutality and systemic racial inequities that included Washington as one of its epicenters. It released a 24-page executive summary Tuesday.

Surely this kind of garbage and disrespect will bring out overwhelming votes for DC Statehood.
Are Democrats trying to lose the 2020 elections? Remember there’s not only the presidential election but numerous Congressional and other local elections.
Are they intentionally trying to create the impression that the Democratic party is full of politically correct blowhards?
I have a suggestion - that DC revert to Maryland except for the federal area. That way, they get their Senate representation (they will always be Democrats anyway) and with the exception of the north, eastern shore, far west and south of Maryland, they join a truly crappy state where they can do what they want.
Biden, Pelosi, Harris, Schumer et al should be asked their opinion about this now for the record.
They should allow DC residents to vote in neighboring states based on what area of DC they live in - i statehood period. Then they can shut up.
If they want to go back and add “context” to our founders then they have to add context to Kamala and add that she’s the descendant of a slave owner - and lets re-contextualize Obama to note that his ancestors sold their countrymen into slavery.
DCFACES ought to be renamed DCFECES. Cuz they’re full of it.
I think that the counties in Maryland and Virginia that border DC should
be combined with DC to become a new state.
Virginia and Maryland would probably go Republican after losing
Prince Georges, Montgomery, Loudon, and Fairfax counties.
My view for what its worth.
If DC becomes a state, all the national monuments will eventually come down.
The monuments are federal property. The honorable Ms Bowser can pound sand.
when are they gonna tear down the pyramids, built by slave labor?
>>Surely this kind of garbage and disrespect will bring out overwhelming votes for DC Statehood.
Surely this kind of garbage and disrespect will bring out overwhelming votes to revoke DC’s Home Rule.
“DC task force targets monuments, prompting fierce blowback”
the stuff in this report makes excellent fodder for TV election ads ...
Let’s put Obama on Mt. Rushmore, and leave him on top of George Washington’s head.
No one want to give the DC hellhole state status... Why would anyone want to do something that stupid?
Many statues and icons should remain as a reminder of our past national injustice and how we have led the world in change. The BLM,Inc and Antifa types are acting like the Taliban by erasing history.
GUESS WHAT NATION ENDED SLAVERY FIRST? You have 3 guesses, but you'll only need one.
Is LeBron James part of the task force?
