Inslee, Merkley criticize Trump for suggesting forest management to blame for wildfires

As wildfires ravage the American West Coast, with more than four million acres burned and at least 33 people dead, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee and Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., slammed President Donald Trump for his comments redirecting blame for the wildfires away from climate change.

"We know that climate change is making fires start easier, spread faster and intensify. And it is maddening right now that when we have this cosmic challenge to our communities, with the entire West Coast of the United States on fire, to have a president to deny that ... these are climate fires," Inslee told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos on Sunday.

Revive the CCC camps. Put kids to work. They’ll get an education, free room and board and an adventure.

The CCC was a wonderful idea, but alas, times have changed. The big attraction of CCC was the food. The guys got fed lots of food to enable them to do the work. Most gained weight, nearly all of it muscle.

Despite the radio ads are people going hungry in the U.S.? Our local school district just announced that they will give ‘free’ breakfasts and lunches to anyone under the age of 18—students or not. Add on Food Stamps and no one will join a new CCC so they can get fed—especially if the price of getting fed is hard labor and discipline.

Misbehavior in the CCC was punished by expulsion—for a hungry, growing lad nearly a tragedy. I think the pay was the same as a private in the army—$16/month and most of that had to be sent home to the parents.

Picture 10s of thousands of today’s youth signing up for something like that.

They received $30 a month and $20 had to be sent home.

Yep, enough money for cigarettes and maybe a beer or two and not much else. Not enough money to get into trouble with. The men who participated were likely democrat voters for the rest of their lives; the CCC made such a positive impact on most of them.

It also allowed them to slip into military discipline fairly easily when WWII came up since they were fit, used to taking orders, wearing army uniforms, and living in army tents.

Regularly occuring fires are actually good for the forests. REGULARLY OCCURING!

Policy of putting fires out without controlled burning led to exactly what is happening now. That cannot be disputed. Buildup of years and years of scrub and deadwood cause fires to burn hotter. Which insead of nourishing the forest and fields burns them to the ground.

If you accept the premise that the atmosphere is heating up, then you should conclude that the water carrying capacity of the atmosphere should also go up. Warmer air can “hold” more water as it evaporates from sea and land, and all that evaporated water will eventually return to the sea and land in the form of precipitation. A warmer world is a wetter world, not a dryer one. Deserts should shrink rather than grow, but the Western US seems to be getting dryer. If that’s really a long term trend rather than a mere temporary fluctuation, then something else than atmospheric warming is causing it.

Inslee, could you please offer up how we are changing the climate? Maybe you and Greta can go on a date and talk about it. 😋

It’s the spotted owl that started these
fires.

These two look stupid after Newsom agreed with Trump on this...lol.

That Newsom would have been harder to beat than Biden IMO. I think he’s the future of that awful party of pedophiles.

BS this is from the liberal tree huggers who shut down real forest management in the 70’s and 80’s.

What we are seeing now with all the fires is exactly what the professional forest managers predicted would happen when they did it.

They should have issued every logger a shotgun and paid a bounty on the spotted owl which was really nothing more than a common barn owl that chose to live in a tree.

The left had to lie to get what they wanted even way back then.

Just so you know, the spotted owl is a subspecies not of the barn owl, but of the common barred owl, with which it can interbreed; that’s why environmentalists came up with the idea of destroying barred owls to “protect” the spotted owls, even though the only reason there are spotted owls at all is because in ancient times they evolved from a population of barred owls that became isolated during a glaciation. Spotted and barred owls True Owls- Strigidae... cannot interbreed with barn owls which are quite a different family - Tytonidae.
