Twitter: Murkowski will not vote to confirm SCOTUS nomination before inauguration
Alaska Public Media ^ | September 18, 2020 | Liz Ruskin

Alaska's @lisamurkowski said today she won't confirm a new SCOTUS justice until after the inauguration day. Fair is fair, she says. My colleague @kcgrove will have a story shortly.

Filing the seat will deflate many democrats.

Why did Josh Mandel drop out? Was it a sick child, or some kind of family issue? I remember he was the guy with the “worn-out shoes”.

Sick wife.

Very very unfortunate. GOP slotted in an ok replacement but that bastard Sherrod Brown was too strong for him.

I hope Trump hasn’t settled on another wobbly Justice in order to get such a deal through.

Thanks for that info about Josh Mandel. I admit I had lost track of him.

Just found this article:

Former Treasurer Josh Mandel and wife, Ilana, divorce, records kept sealed

Josh and his wife are now divorced. Hmm...

They split? Wow, that’s super lame. I wonder if something else wasn’t going on. If he really quit to take care of her and now it’s over.....super lame.

Yep. But if Buzzi had croaked before 2018, I think we would have won the MT and maybe the AZ senate seats too.

We just need 50. I checked with court guru Zen Master. Pence CAN break a tie and has ALREADY broken a tie on an appellate judicial nominee.

We can lose Collins, MurCowSki, and Mionion.

BTW, the fact that Gardner probably has no chance now frees him up to vote for the nominee; and the fact that McSally is in a tight race works to her advantage with hesitant Rs. Now every R in AZ will come out, and we have a 100,000 lead.

This may cost Collins her seat, though. She already lost “independents” with her Judge K vote, but now she’ll lose Rs as well. Tillis will be strengthened.

Senate should be 52-48 or at worst 51-49 after the election (we’ll gain AL, possibly MI).

Grahamnesty is up for reelect. He is Jud Chairman, and my guess is Trump sill force him to get the nominee OUT of committee before the election, but the floor vote will take place after . . . for maximum pressure on all Rs.

I think Mitt will read the tea leaves from his consituents, apparently his approvals in Utah are dropping like a rock, so he needs to do something to get them back up.

Yeah, but he’s got four more years. I think he’ll figure he can ride it out.

Sounds hopeful...

No doubt there will be a lot of 3D chess on how to handle this vacancy and process...

I don’t see us having the presidency or the senate after January 20th.

If you are right about that it doesn't matter who replaces Ginsburg, because dems can create as many SCOTUS justices as they please.

She hasn't said she will vote against, just that she will not vote for.

When people do the math they forget the possibility of an abstention. We are ahead by 53-47. If we can get the fence-sitters to abstain instead of voting against, we could lose up to 6 and still come out winning, with Pence breaking the tie.

In that case whatever the appeals court (just below the Supreme court) decides will hold.

I don't think it would go to an appeals court first. The Supremes can take it up without it going to an appeals court, and I think they would if it was an election-decider.
