Presidential election year, incumbent running.

Although in 1956 most knew the winner would be a foregone conclusion. So not apples to apples.

But we have been here before.

One week.

One week from announcement to senate approval.

Truman and Trump have a couple things in common. The establishment didnt really like Truman all that much either.

It is not the same, but the Democrats rammed through Obamacare, which was not popular, and never looked back.

Here's the important part - how was he replaced? "On October 16, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower gave (William J.) Brennan a recess appointment to the United States Supreme Court. Three months later, on January 14, 1957, Brennan was formally nominated to the Court, and the Senate confirmed the appointment on March 19, 1957." And there you have it - one of the most dogmatic liberals in SCOTUS history selected by a Republican.
