True, but there are rules already in place regarding how impeachments are handled, and those require the Senate to act promptly upon receiving articles of impeachment. Now they could change those rules, but I imagine Pelosi is betting that Schumer could block any changes to the rules. I’m not saying they are right (I think Mitch would go nuclear again), but I think that is what they may be counting on.

No such law. As long as Trump is president, he can appoint whoever he likes to the Supreme Court. Then it’s up to the US Senate to confirm.
