Tom Cotton Says He Took Himself Out Of Consideration For Supreme Court
Forbes ^ | September 20, 2020 | Andrew Solender

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) said Sunday that the Senate will move “without delay” to confirm a replacement for the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg but that he has taken himself out of contention for the position.

Cotton, along with his Senate colleagues Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Tex), Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), are on Trump’s list of potential Supreme Court picks, though all four would be out-of-the-box picks.

This means President Trump won’t be picking Cotton.

RE: Tom Cotton Says He Took Himself Out Of Consideration For Supreme Court

Ted Cruz already said he isn’t interested. That leaves Mike Lee as the only Senator left.

I can’t imagine any U.S. Senator under the age of 75 would be interested in a Federal court position — even on the U.S. Supreme Court.

I do know why Senator Cotton has failed to ever put the Senate into recess once.

Fun fact: President Eisenhower used a recess appointment to put William Brennan on the Supreme Court a month before the 1956 election

President Trump has not had a single recess appointment yet.

Probably for the same reasons Ted Cruz does not wish to sit on the Supreme Court; both have political ambitions that would not be possible for a sitting judge.
Secondary reason: Perhaps they don’t want to put their families through the televised gauntlets of Drawing & Quartering every GOP SC candidate is now subjected to.

I can see Ted not wanting to do this. At least not right now. His family already went through a presidential race, so they vividly recall how crazy and demanding a national campaign can be.

They should decline to have confirmation hearings. Avoid the witch trials.

Good. I don’t think the president should be messing with the Senate when we have such a slim majority.

Can this even be done? “Decline to have confirmation hearings?”. I wish it was a choice. You would find members of the Fake Media absolutely losing it on live TV, spewing all manner of crude, rude and lewd insults to the GOP and their voters. Ha! Do it anyway, Donald.

Hopefully these Senators are refusing in order to keep their seats in the Senate and thus eliminate the possibility of a dem Senate takeover with Schmuckie Schumer at the helm.

Too bad. Cotton is a man of great decency and integrity.

But he is young, and can wait. There will be a couple more opportunities for Supreme Court during Trump’s second term.

The three commies left after Ruthie’s departure are aging and in poor health.

He wasnt going to pick him anyway I don’t think. Cotton would have been far more controversial than any of the other potential nominees and that would have been too risky given the time limitations.

My thought is that the Cuban American woman on the 11th circuit would be the best politically. If the Dems oppose her then they’d incur the wrath of the Miami Cubans and that would wreck Bidens chances in Florida.

We can’t afford to lose any votes so appointing a Senator at this point is a no-go...they would have to recuse themselves on the vote for their own nomination.

I turned it down too. :)

Accepting it means you don’t run for president, but it also means you live in DC until you’re about 80, working every day of it.

That might not appeal to everyone. If he sees himself in higher office or retiring to his farm in Arkansas, he would not want that job.
