As Democratic senators begin mapping out how they will wield their limited procedural weapons in the fight over President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, they are grappling with a central question: How much legitimacy do they give his candidate?

“gender traitor” leads straight (no pun intended) to a web page discussing the handmaiden’s tale, and defines it as a person who is lesbian or gay. so maybe the liberals cannot use that term against acb (or whoever trump picks) since it would seem to be at risk of causing some definitional whiplash amongst their own...

The attacks on her adopted Haitian children have already started.

Democrat senators are in a pickle. If they go into the hearings with guns blazing, they will make a**ses of themselves attacking a highly qualified woman judge that is a Catholic and the mother of seven. Not exactly the kind of video footage you want to be providing the GOP in the days immediately prior to the election. If they withdraw from the hearings, the far left and liberals will be hysterical because a lifetime appointment of a conservative to replace Saint RBG on the Supreme Court was made without mounting a spirited defense to oppose it and stall the replacement process until at least after the election and, should Biden win, after his inauguration (if he lives that long).

The best the Dems can hope for is that they cut a deal with McConnell to skip the committee hearings and go directly to a vote on the floor. Since the “nuclear option” removed the threat of filibuster and ultimate confirmation is assured, provide time for Dem Senators to fully vent in order to put a check in their box from their party’s rabid base. Then vote, swear her in, and get back on the campaign trail.

By the way, I liked Lagoa for her F;orida and Latino vote tie-ins.

The last time the Democrats tried to blow up a Senate confirmation hearing for the Supreme Court, it didn’t work out very well for them. Maybe, they are having cold feet.

Whether they go after her or not depends upon what they think will give them the best mileage in the election.

Logically, that's so. In your heart, you know that moonbats can't help themselves.

I hope it’s driving them bananas, being in this lose-lose situation.

It seems to me this is a subject where one must choose one’s words carefully. Your post, to put it gently, did not meet that standard

Their base won’t even let them appear rational.

My thinking as well. Anything less than a full screeching attack will be considered a sellout.

Deescalation to a leftist is considered defeat.
