Competitive debate, at either the high school or college level, has judges, not moderators. And the judges don't generally say anything; they have a written ballot that they mark. (Debaters get the ballots in an envelope at the end of the tournament.) Debaters ask questions directly of the other team at certain points. They generally don't say anything to the judge during the debate, nor does the judge say anything to them.
WALLACE: “Are you willing tonight to condemn white supremacists and militia groups…”
TRUMP: “Sure…”
WALLACE: “And to say that they need to stand down and not add to the violence in a number of these cities as we saw in Kenosha, and as we’ve seen in Portland”
TRUMP: “Sure, I’m prepared to do it, but I would say almost everything I see is from the left-wing not from the right-wing. I’m willing to do anything, I want to see peace…”
WALLACE: “Then do it, sir.”
BIDEN: “Do it, say it.”.. (nah-nah-nah....)
TRUMP: “What do you want to call them? Give me a name.”
An impartial moderator is what was missing...Chris Wallace can never be anything but a liberal...his word and his actions will always have and will be to the left. Fire Chris Wallace, who would ever believe him after that debacle.

To me, Trump won the debate because he treated it as a serious event, whereas Biden gave me the impression he regarded it as a sort of clown show, making up stuff all along the way, calling Trump a “clown” and telling him to shut up, grimacing and making funny faces.
Biden was not only disrespectful to the US President, but to the listeners - giving me the impression he felt the audience was made up of a bunch ignorant rubes who would swallow anything he fancied, and who would give him Brownie points for his facial grimaces. Trump was serious about presenting the truth from his perspective.
When I give up a chunk of my evening to watch a debate, I expect both participants to take it as a serious event. Trump did that. Biden, I felt, was completely cynical about the whole business.
(d) Biden's team added to low expectations (lids, drug talk, potty breaks), knowing he could at least stand up for 90 minutes with minimal drooling so that the media could declare victory.

** Joe Biden couldn’t answer a question
** Joe Biden’s name-calling was disgusting and inappropriate

** Democrats have to lie to the public about their policies and plans because they are so unpopular and destructive
FAUX should fire him immediately!
Because Wallace pushed the Russia hoax, the fake Mueller probe, the Kavanaugh smear & the Ukraine impeachment hoax on Fox News.
He's never apologized for any of them.

what might be most important is the number of most harmful looking video quotes each candidate can walk away with.
many people do not have the inclination to sit through and digest 90 minute political debates. only the hardcore do that.
however, most people watch tv and they therefore view political ads. what each side may have been looking for are therefore damaging quotes that can be put into negative campaign ads.
on this trump may have done quite well, considering that “damaging” to biden includes quotes that fracture his base which now consists of moderates and the far left.
