The Commission on Presidential Debates announced a major change to the second presidential debate scheduled for Oct. 15: it will take place virtually.
The second presidential debate will take the form of a town meeting, in which the candidates would participate from separate remote locations, a statement said.
The moderator, Steve Scully of C-SPAN, will be located at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County in Miami, Florida, along with participants.
The White House Pool will provide coverage of the second presidential debate, the statement concluded.
The news comes after President Trumps diagnosis with COVID-19. He came back to the White House on Monday after spending several days receiving treatment at the Walter Reed Medical Center. And on Wednesday, he returned to the Oval Office.
White House physician Dr. Sean Conley said Wednesday the president had been fever-free for more than four days and showed no symptoms of the virus for over 24 hours.
Trump said he felt getting the virus was "a blessing from God."
"This was a blessing in disguise. I caught it, I heard about this drug. I said 'Let me take it' it was my suggestion, I said 'Let me take it.' And it was incredible the way it worked. Incredible," Trump said in a video message."
"I want everybody to be given the same treatment as your president because I feel great, I feel, like, perfect," he said.
His treatment included Remdesivir as well as a single dose of Regeneron's antibody cocktail.
UPDATE: Speaking with Fox News's Maria Bartiromo on Thursday shortly after the announcement, President Trump said he will not do a virtual debate.
UPDATE II: Instead of debating, the Trump campaign announced they will hold a rally instead.
Bill Stepien, Trumps campaign manager, said Trump will have posted multiple negative tests prior to the debate" so there is no reason to hold it virtually.
President Trump won the first debate despite a terrible and biased moderator in Chris Wallace, and everybody knows it. For the swamp creatures at the Presidential Debate Commission to now rush to Joe Bidens defense by unilaterally canceling an in-person debate is pathetic," Stepien said. "Thats not what debates are about or how theyre done. Here are the facts: President Trump will have posted multiple negative tests prior to the debate, so there is no need for this unilateral declaration. The safety of all involved can easily be achieved without canceling a chance for voters to see both candidates go head to head. Well pass on this sad excuse to bail out Joe Biden and do a rally instead.
UPDATE III: Biden responded, saying, "We don't know what the president is going to do, he changes his mind every second so for me to comment on that now would be irresponsible."
He continued: I'm going to follow the commission recommendations."
I wonder if the pathetic debate commission will respond by giving Joe Biden 90 minutes of solo air time.
President Trump needs to find the largest outside venue and fill it with 10s of thousands of supporters. Hold a raucous outdoor rally.
So what!? Liberals will STILL hand pick participants and totally script the questions Of course with providing the questions to Joe ahead of time.
Joe is a frail old man. They gave Joe exactly what he wanted. Of course he'll follow their recommendation. Trump has had the virus. He's immune. The commission isn't giving Trump anything at all. Their only focus is on helping Joe. It's just like in their choice of moderators.
He continued: I'm going to follow the commission recommendations." And his handlers orders, and the Communist Chinese orders, and the Russian orders, and the UN orders and anybody that will personally enrich him and his degenerate family.
Distraction from kamala’s disaster debate performance
Trump needs both debates, he is being outspent badly on TV.
He needs to do that rally as close to Biden’s basement location as he can LOL.
Biden says “I’m going to follow the commission recommendations.”
Can this man make a decision on his own about anything at all?
“President Trump needs to find the largest outside venue and fill it with 10s of thousands of supporters. Hold a raucous outdoor rally.”

DJT better find a Red city to town in a RED state for this event...
The Dem Purple State creeps will block anything at this point...
> The Commission on Presidential Debates announced... <
Who do these people think they are anyway? Debate details should be hashed out by the participants themselves. But no. We have some sort of imperial commission that is allowed to call all the shots.
LOL.....good one.
Yep, Biden. You just follow the commission’s recommendations. Let Trump do the leading. It just shows right there he’s not going to be looking out for our interests.
The CPD, Commission on Presidential Debates, has unilaterally made this decision for the October 15th Debate. President Trump will have completed the 2 week quarantine by that date, assuming 1st diagnosis on 30 September as reported. So this means that the CPD is going against ‘settled science’? Are they afraid that DJT will come out and give ‘Mighty’ Joe a hug of death?
I suggest "The Rose Bowl" Kill two birds with one shot, Biden and Newsom.
Or maybe "Soldier Field" Chicago?
Orange Bowl?
Cotton Bowl?
Woodstock????/s
I would love to see a mock debate where Trump plays himself and Biden with a moderator from the Babylon Bee that asks the questions.
That would be awesome. Put on a rally within hearing range right during a biden broadcast from his basement.
Lots of noise bleed over.
Imagine how confused/angry Mr. Sundowner would get.
