Viewership started to trend lower as thugs started to become visible in the NFL. Then came Colin Kaepernick, kneeling to show his disrespect for our country, and the NFL didn’t fine him or tell him to stop or he’d lose his job. Instead, they allowed players to kneel and disrespect our anthem and our flag, all across the NFL.

However, they can save themselves. Here is how, in three easy steps.
The NFL will return to a celebration of America and our military and police forces. They’ll put on pre-game and halftime shows that rival the musical sequences in Captain America. Troops will be honored. The colors will be marched into the stadium with a full military honor guard. The National Anthem will be sung with dignity and pride, and every player on the field will stand with their right hand over their heart. If they don’t, they will be at the curb with their duffle bag within minutes. Do you want to save yourselves, owners? Then kick any ungrateful athlete right out of your beloved sport.
The NFL will require each paid athlete to take courses in ethics, history, and finance. Perhaps they were raised in a well-educated home with plenty of books and excellent teachers at school. Most likely they were not. The courses are going to be non-negotiable and if the athlete is illiterate, tutors will be hired by the NFL to teach him to read. Many of these young, brilliant athletes have been shamefully shuffled through the school system without ever learning the tools they need to be good public citizens. In return for their dedication to their sport, the NFL is going to teach them. If they refuse to take these classes, then to the curb with their duffle bag they will go.

Courses in history? Like the ones they took in high school and college? The ones where they learn that Columbus was a racist destroyer of indigenous people, the founders were evil racists, Western Civilization is white and racist, Capitalism is bad and communism is good?

Hate to tell you, but the non-’Africanized’ sports are like that too. Most pro sports are a sick joke. NASCAR is primarily non-black and they bent the knee to the SJWs and BLM. That was before the ‘noose’ incident, too.

That is a pitiful rationalization to try to be politically correct.
That all plays into analytics and concommitant fantasy football. Besides TV ads I'd wager that's a huge part of the money (i.e., control) of the game.
Same with baseball. Tired of watching two guys play catch while the fielders are where exactly? - meanwhile the announcers blather on trying to say cool stuff.

No, I’m not being PC. You seem to be singling out so-called Africanized sports, whereas I am pointing out that it’s pretty much *all* US pro sports and has been for years and years.
There’s nothing worth saving.

When the die off begins it will happen.
Now the teams can show some justification for new stadiums. Game attendance supports hotels/motels, vendors who sell everything from over priced soft drinks beer and food at the stadium, restaurants and bars make big bank on games. Even ticket scalpers are making money.
When those sources of revenue and the taxes generated dry up the cities will start turning a deaf ear to the owners. Not before.
When game related revenue drops to the level of the 40’s and 50’s then, and only then, will the cities grow a pair.
I predict the last NFL games will be played in small college stadiums to underwhelming crowds.
The Schadenfreude will flow like thick sweet honey!

Realistically we’re looking at 6-10 years before the beast finally dies on some small college field in a game that has no fans in the stands, is not shown on TV, broadcast on radio or mentioned on the internet.
A lot of that boorish behavior started at "the U", was popularized by ESPN, and made it's way into the NFL in the mid- to late-80's. And it only got worse as time passed.
I disagree with the writer with respect to her point about making us all happy again with a good, patriotic half time show.
The most certain way to bring a reality slap to the head of the NFL is to outlaw ANY financial subsidy of any kind or nature whatsoever by city, state or local governments. This would include ANY special tax break by IRS.
