Opium
The only “radical” islam are the people that don’t want to wage war on the rest of the world, the ones that want to live in peach with the infidel.
[ But one can only wonder why they would have wanted our troops to remain in Afghanistan. ]
Knockheed, Raytheon, etc....
Tellin’ generals: If you keep us in the money, we will give you a wonderful post military retirement do nothing job.
[ Rare earth minerals.
Afghan mountains are full of them.
The Chinese are chomping at the bit to come in and get them. And the Chinese dont care if Afghan girls go to school. ]
The Chinese can die for them then.
Besides we have plenty of Rare earth minerals and a by product of rare earth mining is thorium and that is the Future of non-renewable energy.
I get your point. But there are muslims and there are muslims. In many places the majority just want to live their lives and be left alone. No, they don’t speak out about their more radical co-religionists, but people who do tend to have very nasty ends.
The king of Afghanistan in the 60s, Mohammed Zahir Shah, actually wanted to modernize the country, not unlike the Shah of Iran. But most of the country was under the sway of mullahs, men who are against all forms of modernism with the possible exception of firearms.
As I said, young women in the capital were encouraged to wear western-style and get education and jobs. In fact, the king tried to make honor killing of daughters illegal. So he was overthrown and the mullahs and their ideas prevailed. Afghanistan descended even deeper into the 7th century.
It is my opinion, quite possibly wrong, that we, the U.S., cannot and will not fix what is wrong with Afghanistan. Others, much more willing to shed their own soldiers’ as well as Afghans’ blood have tried and failed.
Hoping this happens asap, enough of our blood and treasure for this insane country in Asia.
Or...we can fight on for 200 or 300 more years to get where we are now there...no where!
