During a speech before the Federalist Society on Thursday, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito stated that in certain quarters, religious liberty is fast becoming a disfavored right. And is viewed by some as not a cherished freedom, its often just an excuse for bigotry and it cant be tolerated, even when there is no evidence that anybody has been harmed.
Alito began by cautioning that, aside from specific references to any Supreme Court cases, he isnt commenting on the legality of coronavirus restrictions and isnt making any statements as to whether the restrictions constitute good policy.
He stated that coronavirus has highlighted disturbing trends that were already present before the virus struck.
Alito said that cases involving coronavirus restrictions have pointed up emerging trends in the assessment of individual rights. This is especially evident with respect to religious liberty. It pains me to say this, but in certain quarters, religious liberty is fast becoming a disfavored right.

Too late.
More like a violated right.
Said that 15 years ago with gay marriage and that it would destroy religious rights.
Then see the RFRA fight with Pence.
Religious rights are fine if youre Muslim tho.

Im down on George Bush at this time, but we should point out - Bush gave us Roberts, but he also gave us Alito.
The only good thing he did, and he wanted Myers.
Communists/Socialists coming at us at warp speed!
The only good thing he did, and he wanted Myers.
Talk like that will get him ‘Scalia’ed!
In fact, if the XiJinBiden coup succeeds, to avoid all the backlash from packing the USSC, I would not be surprised if Comey Barrett, Kavanaugh, Thomas, and possibly even Juan Roberts got ‘Scalia’ed.
not a cherished freedom, its often just an excuse for bigotry and it cant be tolerated, even when there is no evidence that anybody has been harmed.
Yep. Pretty clear when they ban drive-in church services yet allow drive-in movies or bankrupt some cake artist for refusing to make a cake that could be provided by any number of competitors that they just hate religion.
And they think government should be our god!!!
Its not that same-sex marriage itself is inherently incompatible with religious liberty. Its our judiciary that has created the problem by failing to hold all kinds of non-discrimination laws and policies to the same standard as other restrictions on speech and association. Leftist judges feel bad for blacks, gays, trannies, etc. and hate religion, so they are unwilling to decide these issues in a manner consistent with the 1st Amendment.
But it is.
Priests dont perform abortions so there was never going to be a direct conflict between the church and the act.
Marriage OTOH *IS* a religious institution first and foremost and this was always going to setup a direct conflict between homosexuals and any church that didnt kowtow to them.
Yep, and Trump gave us Neil “1964 civil rights act applies to trannies” Gorsuch. Yet FReepers still argue Trump “kept his campaign pledge to appoint only “Scalia-like pro-life originalist judges” and argue Bush did “nothing” for us.
It always has been. This danger is recognized in the
Constitution.
Most leftest tend to leave out parts of the constiatuion and bill of rights:
- ... free exercise thereof
- ... peaceful assembly
- ... shall not be infringed
etc.
Like denying first, second and fourth amendment rights for the sake of some pandemic. Face it, if we can't get the two Georgia senators re-elected, America as we know it is on life-support.
If the progressives succeed in capturing the federal government with its already entrenched Swamp Critters, how long before we see hate crimes actions against pastors who preach from the parts of the Bible that the Alphabet People don’t like? I think that the only reason we haven’t already seen a rash of these actions is that they are still in subterfuge mode and haven’t yet gone to action mode until they can deceive their way to power. Then the purges will begin and conservative Bible-believing churches will be front and center as the enemies of the progressive movement.
Bush is a Globalist. He isnt the sharpest tool in the box, though and was easily influenced by those around him. His treatment of Scooter Libby shows us how his views changed according to how his friends changed. I blame Karl Rove for that. He seemed to think that popularity and consensus were all that mattered. Virtue signaling substituted for real morality.
