A U.S. federal judge on Thursday rejected Parler’s demand that Amazon.com Inc restore web hosting services for the social media platform, which Amazon had cut off following the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol.
U.S. District Judge Barbara Rothstein in Seattle said Parler was unlikely to prove Amazon breached its contract or violated antitrust law by suspending service on Jan. 10, and that it was “not a close call.”
She also forcefully rejected the suggestion that the public interest would be served by a preliminary injunction requiring Amazon Web Services to “host the kind of abusive, violent content at issue in this case, particularly in light of the recent riots at the U.S. Capitol.”
“That event,” she added, “was a tragic reminder that inflammatory rhetoric can - more swiftly and easily than many of us would have hoped - turn a lawful protest into a violent insurrection.”

I’m surprised by the helplessness of Parler. A startup basically needs
1. One of the most free states for the business to thrive in. Washington state, really? No-go. Go for the middle or southern part of our country.
2. High bandwidth—a place next to a cable and a company that will connect it and provide bare access to the Net. A small builder if necessary (small construction project including electrician).
3. Hardware, Linux and hardware techs (drive arrays, etc.).
4. Systems administrators who can install and configure servers (DNS, web, mail, forum software, etc.). Some good ones don’t even have college degrees.

“Even though there is no evidence, the seriousness of the charge is what matters.”
This works great for democrats just as much as ignoring evidence and/or prejudging the case!
Nothing like having both thumbs on U.S. District Judge Barbara Rothstein’s judicial scale. /sarc
WHY on Earth would anyone go to a federal judge in SEATTLE when filing a lawsuit against a HYPER-LIBERAL company like AMAZON?
Harvard Law bump for later....
And yet Democrats can ALWAYS find a liberal judge to do their dirty work, i.e. multiple injunctions to stop or delay every Trump initiative, persecute Michael Flynn, look the other way on election fraud 😡
I delighted in informing AWS that the company I work for would not be using their services.
On a phone call after sending that message I was able to confer the reason: Amazon is not a trustworthy partner and we do not want them telling us what we can and cannot say or do.
The “official” reason was that were beat out by a superior product.
yep!
What about the part of the contract that required 30 days notice?
It is not the substance of the case that matters but the nature of the litigants.
I agree. Seems like a lot of people don’t realize exactly what has happened.
That contract means nothing now.
I agree but most of the organizations that have a cloud presence have done so because they do not have the skills to self host.
She probably doesn't even know what "social media" is.
I speak from experience with these types of older people...
She’s an 82-year-old Peanut Boy fossil who has probably never used a computer or tablet in her life.
They really didn't seem to do some basic homework -- especially as it applies to the cutthroat world of competition.
They knew they were going up against some of the most ruthless competitors in Big Tech, but yet, they didn't prepare an infrastructure to keep them separate from their reach. Instead, they bafflingly built their business on top of those platforms -- from advertising on Twitter and Facebook, to hosting their systems on AWS. Did Parler honestly believe that Silicon Valley was just going to sit on their hands and not push back against an upstart competitor?
Sad fact is, if you want to survive in business today, you need to hire some damn good lawyers.
She's 82 years old. She probably has trouble finding the bathroom, much less understanding "social media".
Lawyer types in their 70s and 80s are too important to have to deal with computers and the Internet.
Having never had to learn, they have people for that.

Just shut up and bake the cake ... /sarcasm
