Jan. 22 (UPI) — NBC News announced the retirement of Tom Brokaw on Friday after 55 years with the network.
The 80-year-old anchor said in a statement that he trusts the new generation of NBC News to cover current events.
“During one of the most complex and consequential eras in American history, a new generation of NBC News journalists, producers and technicians is providing America with timely, insightful and critically important information, 24/7,” the statement read. “I could not be more proud of them.

I guess that shows how many here ever watch the MSM. I haven’t have it on since FOX came on the scene how many years ago? It used to be the only thing to watch at 6:30 in CA for years. I didn’t know he had any role left in any network.
Brokaw, as much as I loathe him and his raspy, halting voice, did pay homage to WWII veterans though. His book, “The Greatest Generation,” is a must-read.
Is he getting too old and tired to sexually harass the female staffers now?
I never ever thought Tom Brokaw was a nice person. I tried to convince my dad when he was living that Brokaw was a liberal hack, but I could never convince him. He was doing all that “greatest generation” stuff for cover, IMHO.
This is long before it became known he was preying on the women. Complete dirtbag.
I was done with network news when Peter Jennings went on his rant about the 1994 midterm elections - comparing the American voters to two-year-olds throwing a temper tantrum.
That was the wakeup call for me.
Tom is hoping to get Jen’s job.
Yep, I thought he was dead too.
Maybe it’s a cat?.
A broadcaster who mumbles and slurs? Pretty cushy gig to “retire” at 80!
Network anchors cling to their posts almost as tenaciously as Senators and Congressmen!
“And what do you think, Cokie?”
He retires to lower and lower salaries.
