National Review covered Salon’s hit piece on Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AK), which tried to accuse him of lying about his military record.
But there’s a small part in the National Review article that should drive everyone mad.
At Salon, Roger Sollenberger claimed that completing Ranger School does not make one an actual Ranger. He also insisted that the military agrees with him. I emphasized the important part:
In his first run for Congress, Cotton leaned heavily on his military service, claiming to have been “a U.S. Army Ranger in Iraq and Afghanistan,” and, in a campaign ad, to have “volunteered to be an Army Ranger.” In reality, Cotton was never part of the 75th Ranger Regiment, the elite unit that plans and conducts joint special military operations as part of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.

Yes, and just because you earned that MOH, you’re not really a hero. Or, those stripes don’t make you a sgt. And, those stars don’t make you a general. And, just because, because...
CBS-TV “faded” a word from Schumer’s recent declaration, which included the word “insurrection”.
That historic blooper can heretofore no longer be recalled by CBS-TV viewers.

Occasionally Rangers will show up in Fort Smith.
There is a nice statue memorial.

ROTC can go to Airborne School and Ranger School. Summer rangers and winter rangers.... White thread for winter rangers. The officer corps is full of 5-jump chumps and ranger school rangers. When you see a General Officer with bald jump wings.... without a star or the star and wreath they are usually just guys that go to the school and then wear the qualification badge of honor their entire careers. It is the combat arms guys that really make the man, make the badge, make the legends.
I have work with USAF TACP with Ranger tags assign to Ranger Regiments.
This one is like being a us citizen, but born here vs naturalized.
My son-in-law did 2 combat tours in Afghanistan prior to Ranger school. So according to the left he’s not a ‘real’ ranger? Pfftt!
Puts me in mind of the Merriam-Webster website flagging the term “sexual preference” as pejorative shortly after Diane Feinstein sandbagged Amy Coney Barrett for using the perfectly innocuous term.
btt
Cotton went to Ranger School and was tabbed. He did not wear the regiment tab on the left or right shoulder. I’d love to see ANYONE from newsWEAK to make it through RIP alone.
Much ado about nothing. There is a Ranger School and a Ranger Regiment. Soliders who graduate from Ranger School and are awarded the Ranger Tab may call themselves Rangers. Soliders who have been assigned to the Ranger Regiment or the earlier Ranger separate companies can call themselves Rangers. Many of the latter, especially the Enlisted Soliders, never attended Ranger Schools. Deal with it. Badge collector syndrome.
Cotton served in the 101st Airborne which has been featured in many documentaries, e.g, Band of Brothers. These attackers are nattering nabobs.
Is Newspeak Magazine really asserting that somebody who graduated from Ranger School, and whom the Army authorized to walk around wearing a tab that says "RANGER" right on it, is not a Ranger?
Yes I know there are Bat Boys (those assigned to, or who have spent the majority of their careers) serving in Ranger Battalions wearing the scroll who would argue he was a "half breed Ranger," and who will insist, "The tab is a school, the scroll is a way of life, etc." I get it. They are a close knit organization, and train unlike any others in the Army and are more than entitled to their esprit de corps, but that said, for somebody outside the 75th Ranger Regiment, much less the Army to parse that distinction is utter absurdity.
I looked up a Ranger association and they say that if you went to Ranger school, graduated and got the “tab”, they consider you a Ranger and you can join them as a full member.
So, I suppose THEY accept someone who passed and got the “tab” a Ranger.
Sollenberger couldn’t attack a pile of grapefruit in the produce section at the market.
Oh, these social justice warriors are so tough.
Yeah, right.
