I tend to think it was a real attempted robbery, that messed with the wrong people. The surviving man is just trying to stay out of jail.

Yeah, scare “pranks” are often just sadism, I think.
There are several popular videos (tens, if not hundreds, of millions of views) of ”pranks” where guys go from standing still to suddenly going crazy and attacking some innocent person in an elevator. The fact that they intentionally miss with their punches and kicks doesn’t make it any less frightening for the victims who naturally are screaming and trying to escape. They are damn lucky no one had a gun.

Me too and surprised more people haven’t run into serious problems screwing with people for their childish pranks. It’s a good way to get shot.

Calling it a prank doesn’t change it. It is threatening someone with bodily harm. He deserved to die, and all who were on on it.

When they started the ‘funniest videos’ TV shows I figure it wouldn’t be long before people started dying or kids maimed by trying to do stupid stunts just to get on the tube.

I say supposedly because there is (naturally) some controversy over whether he said it or not...
HOWEVER, I am sure if he had thought of it, he would have said it...
it’s guaranteed he won’t do that again...
Also it’s kind of suspicious that every article on this repeats the “prank for a youtube channel” claim but none of them mention his screen name and his name doesn’t seem to have ever come up in connection with any other story. Even if it really was a prank it would not exactly be a “starter prank” and many people who run popular youtube channels have their real names out there in connection with it or have been the news for some reason.

Somewhere on YouTube, there is a video of a guy who used to dress up in a clown outfit and surprise people in a park. But he jumped out of the bushes this one guy and that guy beat the crap out of him. Now that was a funny video!
