I’m an Eagle Scout that worked as a professional Scouter for two council offices as a District Executive and eventually a Senior District Executive. Our main job is fundraising and after getting cussed and yelled from my bosses (drunks that forgot the Scout Law) because every fundraising source dried up because of the Great Recession, I had a nervous breakdown and walked away.
Years later, I’ve kept contact with my old colleagues and saw how these supposedly conservative, religious folks started cheering for LGBT scouts and leaders being admitted and girls joining Scouting. They have exalted girls getting Eagle Scouts so much, every time one gets the rank, they issue a press release. A girl earning Eagle Scout makes the newspaper and the local news, as well as social media. No one cares anymore when a boy becomes an Eagle.
My old colleagues are wh*res that will sell their soul to the devil to sign up more members and raise money. It’s not working. The only council office that gained membership in the entire country is Texarkana, TX. When I worked in the 2000s, our boy membership grew 5-10% every year.
I have a son that I would love to pass along our family tradition of Scouting. Currently, all the Troops in my area are boy-only and as long as he stays away from summer camp, he will have an experience just like mine. I will volunteer as Scoutmaster to make sure the Scouting experience remains traditional. If anything changes, we’ll walk away from Scouting with a heavy heart, but not without going down without a fight.
Yes, I know of alternatives such as Trail Live USA. There are no programs offered within 50 miles.

All of our institutions are full of apparatchiks who would happily rent their kids for a nice paycheck. I see no way out of this corruption. It’s cancerous and the prognosis is terminal.
I don’t remember the names, but I’ve seen at least two FReeper Scouting guys cheer girls in Scouting and effuse praise on the girls in their troops. Shocked me both times because, from an outsider’s perspective, it seems pretty obvious why each should be its own thing. Don’t get why they want to help destroy that institution.
