Do the brits stll have a navy?
Nasser had the balls to stand up to the Brits who could do nothing to dislodge him. The only good thing I can say about him is that he showed the remnants and the British Empire how insignificant they truly were at that point.
“Do the brits stll have a navy?”
Interesting question. They decided that to be taken seriously, and to make their own foreign policy, they needed not one, but two super carriers. They turned out (I’m shocked!) to cost way more than expected. Then, after several changes of government and shifting priorities, to finish the carriers they basically had to park the rest of the fleet. So, they have two super carriers that they can’t sail anywhere because, well, without the escort ships they’d be sitting ducks. This caused then PM, Theresa May, to propose to Trump that they integrate the British carriers into the American fleet. Which, means Britain can no longer have a foreign policy different than the US policy; exactly the opposite of what the British wanted. Sometimes the irony just hurts.
In answer to your question, well...yes and no.
Yeah, they do. Two carriers, some frigates, couple of destroyers, and subs. But I think the cooling systems used to keep the ships engines don’t work well at all in the warms waters of the Gulf.
At least they had that problem some years ago.
