On Monday, 22 March, in Chicago, 15 people were recorded as being shot. Three of them were killed. One of those shot is recorded as acting in self-defense, on the South Side of Chicago. From the Chicago Sun Times:
An hour prior, a man was shot in South Deering on the South Side. They were sitting in a parked vehicle about 10 p.m. in the 2500 block of East 109th Street when two people walked up to them and fired shots, police said. A 25-year-old man was struck in the face and grazed in the neck area. He pulled out his own gun and returned fire but did not strike anyone.
He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition. Police said a handgun was recovered at the scene, and the man does not have a valid FOID card or concealed carry license. He was taken into custody and charges are pending.
The case is of interest because it appears to be self-defense; the police do not mention the injured man as having any prior convictions, and the 25-year-old who was shot did not have a Firearms Owner Identification Card (FOID) or a Concealed Carry License (CCW).

The backup to obtain a FOID in Illinois was about four months in 2020. It is supposed to be done in 30 days. The backup was another four months, on average, for a CCW permit. A FOID is required before a CCW can be applied for. Several lawsuits have been filed. In March of 2021, the same numbers were cited. The times to obtain a FOID or CCW in Chicago have been reported as significantly longer.

The founders would be disappointed in us
Thanks to progressivism we’ve gone from a country where the people were free and governments needed specific authorization to do stuff to one where governments are free and people need licenses etc to do almost anything.
That was not progress.
The goal of the left is to take guns from the honest, non-violent citizens and leave them in the hands of violent criminals. They do not want us to have the right to defend ourselves.
This does not shock me at all. Foxx refuses to prosecute gang members and felons who are in possession of firearms illegally. But she has no problem going after a guy who was defending himself.

They whine about requiring ID to vote? Come back at them with:
“FOID card requirements are racist!”
Of course the origin of all American gun control is racist, so there’s that.
In Chicago, always remember to shoot in unjustified offense.
And be black. That way you'll never see a day in jail.

This sounds like a really good case to take to federal court as a second amendment infringement.

The Left would disarm criminals if it could. Not out of any love/conconcern for their victims but out of its desire to remove any effective means by the oppressed of resisting the criminal acts carried out by the state.
California also even if you have a permit, even if you are in your home. You will be jailed while it is investigated and your home will be searched, and any and all firearms will be confiscated and never returned. It will be the end of life as you knew it, there is no way to win. And it will cost you everything else you own to “maybe” not go to prison for defending yourself. Not allowing yourself to be a victim is illegal in Ca and you will pay in one way or another. Your person and property are considered public property in common.
Separate.
All the while, most of the murders by criminals go unsolved. Criminal government seems to be the norm.

With the exception being that one does not need a ‘license’ to vote for the people who infringe all these stupid rules on us.
A few months back when the Ds ‘overtook’ Virginia I mentioned to a friend of mine (who happens to be Black) that ‘now the Libs are in control, we will probably lose a lot of gun rights’ and he replied,
‘So?, ‘WE’ don’t pay attention to that crap anyway’.....
even though it was said jokingly, it does carry a lot of truth to it.
If I owned hell and chicago I would live in hell and rent out chicago.
That and short term it benefits the left on several levels to have a plethora of violent armed felons roaming the streets.
Most obviously it provides a number of terrified voters who can be stampeded into voting for anyone (falsely) promising to provide peace and safety.
More subtly it provides cover for political assassinations, ask Seth Rich.

The Left can and will disarm criminals, at least the ones they don't directly hire...
