I liked La La Land the movie. Saw it on a plane ride home. Haven’t been to a movie theatre in a few years now and not anytime soon either. Most movies are crap anyway these days and who needs the leftist tripe on the big screens?
Don’t know his politics but he has frequently thanked faith in Jesus for restoring him from alcoholism several years ago.
The Oscars Sink To New Level of Ridiculous

I thought it was illegal for teens to not win every award no matter how much they suck these days
I’ve heard of Anthony Hopkins, of course, but I’d never heard of any of those movies. They’re still making new movies?
Observation from the red carpet display: I now know why a Golden Globe Award turns into a SAG Award as time goes by.
That was a crappy movie and the award was thrown away on her.
I have not been to the ‘movies’ for decades...buying a ticket is just subsidizing people who hate me
What genuine black guy was that?
Hmmm....not enough traffic...weather...traffic...weather...traffic...weather in the Oscar's.
I never watched another stupid Hollywood “awards” ceremony the year Broke Back Mountain won. I made an attempt to watch it for curiosity’s sake, but it was SO SO BAD I couldn’t stomach it. Not just the gay part, but in it’s entirety a truly crappy film.
Who really cares about actors patting themselves on the back while wearing over priced, ugly, clothes anyway?
The fact is some people are just BETTER actors than others.
Hopkins and McDormand are just better actors than many of their peers. They are not just on the screen because of their looks.
Last night my 22 year old son was visiting and wanted to watch
“There will be Blood” staring Daniel Day Lewis.
Lewis is probably the best actor is the last 40 years.
Every time he takes on an occasional role, it is worthy of an oscar nomination.
Couple of token whites ?
Sir Anthony is a fantastic actor. He improves any movie he’s in.
“Meet Joe Black” remains one of my favorites, although I like “A Change of Seasons” (how he keeps sighing and Shirley McLaine, his wife, says, “WILL YOU STOP THAT!”)
Non-event.
Anthony Hopkins absolutely deserved this Oscar, more than most people who have ever won an Oscar. As far as I’m concerned he put in one of the great acting performances on film in The Father—and maybe the best performance he’s ever given.
The Father is a great, non-political, moving little film that everyone should see. It’s very sad and a little scary and it delves into a rough subject (dementia), but I thought it was brilliant and emotional and meaningful.
Anyway, the people who put together the ceremony really acted foolishly considering Hopkins just won the BAFTA (the British Academy Award) for this role, so it was hardly a crazy idea he might win the Oscar too. It’s kind of funny how Hopkins didn’t bother taking part at all.
I would like to see a re-make of Blazing Saddles in which the Oscars gets crashed at the very end with a bunch of cowboy types hooting and hollering and in general causing mayhem.
Daily Mail quoted tweets:”’Who got the Oscar for most woke oppressed millionaire? Or is that coming up,’ another added.”....’Didn’t know movies were still being made because Hollywood is not essential. Now they are woke political mouthpieces. I had no clue anyone made movies the past year. They can clap for themselves. No one is watching.’”
Yeah, I remember seeing Meet Joe Black in the theaters when it was first out in the 1990s. I think Hopkins’ best performances were in The Remains of the Day and Shadowlands (and now The Father). He was great and really likeable in The World’s Fastest Indian too, and The Elephant Man is a real classic. I’m sure he’ll always be remembered most as Hannibal the Cannibal though.
He celebrated his win with fava beans and a nice Chianti.
