Republican Doug Collins won't run for Senate or Georgia governor in 2022

ATLANTA — Former Republican U.S. Rep. Doug Collins, a favorite of former President Donald Trump, says he doesn't plan to run for governor or U.S. Senate in Georgia in 2022.

Collins’ announcement Monday makes it less likely there will be a top-drawer Republican primary challenger to Gov. Brian Kemp. In the separate U.S. Senate race, it could open the way for other Republicans who have been considering a run for the GOP nomination to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock, who will also be up for reelection in 2022.

Collins ran unsuccessfully for the seat Warnock ultimately won last year. He was Trump's choice to succeed U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, who retired. But Kemp instead appointed business executive Kelly Loeffler.

Collins finished third in an all-party special election in November, with Loeffler and Warnock advancing to a January runoff that Warnock won. His victory, along with Democrat Jon Ossoff's runoff victory over incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. David Perdue tipped control of the Senate to Democrats.

How the $^%$# did we lose GEORGIA for crying out loud. Fraud or no, we should have rolled over that state.

Now Lin Woodhead has moved on to destroy South Carolina?

This isn't strange at all. I think Doug Collins would be great in either position but I am not convinced he can win a statewide election in Georgia.

Georgia elections are won and lost largely in the Atlanta suburbs, and I just don't think his marble-mouthed yokel act plays very well among those voters.

Kemp intentionally set up a special election that split the votes to prevent anyone getting 50%+1.

Collins is avoiding splitting the vote and allowing another America first candidate to face Kemp... unselfish if true. He’s a friend of Trump so I have to think they are thinking ahead.

Where is General William Tecumseh Sherman when we really need him?

RE: Republican Doug Collins won’t run for Senate or Georgia governor in 2022

He knows that Georgia’s corrupt voting system is still corrupt and the November 2020 cheating infrastructure has not changed. He’s not going to waste his time on an inevitable outcome.

Did Kemp do that, or did Johnny Isakson do that by retiring when he did -- and forcing the governor to replace him on an interim basis until the special election?

I think he could beat Warnock. He may want to reconsider but I understand if he does not.

Kemp is going down, even if it means that the Abrams tank will be the next governor of Georgia.

I say again, Kemp will not be governor of Georgia.

No one wants Kemp, left or right. Loeffler was a disastrous pick from day one. Did isaksom really need to retire when he did?

Kemp appointed a very rich campaign donor that everyone knew couldn’t win.

We can’t see in their minds but I have to think Isakson and Kemp did all this on purpose.

Isakson did not have to retire when he did. Kemp did not have to appoint a sure loser. But both happened with knowledge of the most likely outcome.

Maybe Collins is betting on the GOP retaking the House and he’ll run for his old seat. Does he retain of of his old senority if voted back in?

As I told people here on FR at the time ...

Kelly Loeffler was appointed to Isakson's seat for two reasons:

1. She's a woman (notice how many of the House seats the GOP picked up in 2020 were won by female candidates).

2. She was independently wealthy, which meant she could bring a whole lot of money to her own campaign and let the national GOP Senate campaign funds be used elsewhere.

Item #2 was particularly important because the 2020 election was only to fill the remainder of Isakson's original term in office -- which ends in 2022. So the national GOP leadership wanted someone in that seat who could self-finance TWO Senate campaigns in three years.

I really like Collins, but if he had been appointed to that seat he would have been a useless senator because he would have spent most of his time running around raising money ... which meant he'd also be selling out his constituents on behalf of his financial backers.

“Now Lin Woodhead has moved on to destroy South Carolina?”

Yea, just like Georgia he’ll be telling Republicans to sit out the elections there to ‘teach the GOP a lesson’, and just like Georgia a large enough percentage of them will do just that, for yet another Democrat takeover.

...and by the way, have the Republicans learned their ‘lesson’ yet, now that we ‘taught them a lesson’ in Georgia for having two RINOs running for Senate that wouldn’t support Trump strongly enough for Lin Wood’s liking?

How is that strategy working out for us? Should we keep doing it until we’re North Korea or something?

No wonder the Democrats look at us as TOTAL IDIOTS - we earned it!!!

Collins caused the primary loss.
The idiot who told conservatives to stay home caused the general election loss.

I kind of wish she did win the last time. We’d still have 2 senators and she wouldn’t have been registering voters like crazy. Having her deal with corona would have been better for the long haul.

Loeffler was a phony in it for herself only. She didn’t much fight for Trump when in the trenches. She compromised with the Deep State against Trump on her way out the door. Good riddance however she was way better than the Warlock Rat.
