Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that New York’s restaurant service curfew will end next month for both indoor and outdoor dining areas, and that bar seating can return to New York City beginning May 3.
Cuomo had already extended the food and beverage service curfew by an hour, to midnight. That will be lifted entirely for outdoor dining areas beginning May 17 and for indoor dining areas beginning May 31.

He’s trying to stay one step of his rubber stamp legislature.
They’re arguing over a period of a few weeks, while plenty of establishments have already gone bust or are about to go bust.

The announcement comes a day after the Legislature said it would roll back Cuomo’s executive order requiring people to buy food in order to purchase booze. The state Senate unanimously approved the resolution by a 61 to 0 vote count, and that change is expected to be voted through the state Assembly later Wednesday. The restaurant industry has lobbied for months for the rollback of these restrictions, arguing they are arbitrary and unnecessarily penalize an industry hit hard by the pandemic’s restrictions. No more Cuomo meatballs when you grab a drink at the bar, oh praise be the Cuomo.

One Saratoga eatery simply offered a $1 bag of “Cuomo chips” — until the governor took that off the menu, too, and revised his edict to require more substantial food be sold with alcohol.Putting Saratoga on the map, not just in a Carly Simon Song.
