In the face of most Democrats' opposition, US Steel cancels a billion-dollar investment. Salena Zito

Exactly two years ago, U.S. Steel Corporation announced that the company would turn its Mon Valley operations into a key source of lightweight steel for the automotive industry.

At the time, local leaders and company officials called the investment “transformational.”

It involved a whopping $1.5 billion upgrade to its Mon Valley Works.

On Friday, U.S. Steel said after months of tug-of-war with the Allegheny County Health Department, it is canceling the $1.5 billion upgrade and idling three batteries at Clairton Coke Works by 2023.

President Joe Biden said in his joint speech in front of Congress that there there's no reason that steel can't be continually manufactured in the United States and by doing it in a safe and green way, in a environmentally efficient way. Biden even riffed, “There's no reason the blades for wind turbines can’t be built in Pittsburgh instead of Beijing.”

U.S. Steel said in a statement that a dragged-out delay from Allegheny County officials for permitting the project contributed to their decision, along with the new direction that the company is taking to focus on sustainability.

Allegheny County chief executive Rich Fitzgerald, a city Democrat, said he was “blindsided by the news.”

Manufacturers may have to relocate to places where there are no unions or outside the country. This makes hollow Biden’s promise to protect union jobs and bring back manufacturing — and it will be doubly hollow if he looks the other way when things like this happen.

Melting steel with wind and solar should be interesting.

Everyone talks about Fed.gov money printing causing inflation, but the twin-sister of leftist/statist money printing, is their politically-inspired supply destruction.

Translation...... US Steel didn’t want to fork over any of the bribes they were demanding so they said....GFY.

There would be no palm greasing under President Trump. But, the Dem’s figured they got their pals in the White House so everything will go back to normal.

Disclaimer.....I’m fully aware that President Trump used to be developer Trump and I have no doubt that certain “things” went on at certain times in his business career that may have made things a go a bit smoother. However, different times. Different place. Different agenda. Different person.

Pennsylvania voters knew this all along and Biden won anyway. this will change things? Only if the voter rolls are cleaned up. Even then how does it explain a senator Casey or their governor?

Variations on this story (the truth about job-killing democrats) will be repeated many times over the next four years...

Biden's sending jobs to China.

The only 'jobs' democrats know how to create are 'make-work government hand out' jobs.

Allegheny County has been Dem controlled for generations, destroying businesses they find “undesirable”.

FReepers always predict that there will be consequences at the voting booth......and it never happens.

Just like AOC keeping her seat after defeating Amazon’s center in her district, there are no consequences for the communists at the polls.

Nothing will come from this. The union leaders will continue to live large off the dues of workers and workers will still blindly follow the union leaders.

The downward spiral continues for this once great nation.

Just like AOC keeping her seat after defeating Amazon’s center in her district, there are no consequences for the communists at the polls.

1. What made the AOC-Amazon fiasco so comical is that she was publicly opposing the Amazon headquarters project in the district next to hers, not in her district.

2. When it comes to many of these industries, the numbers of people directly affected by events like the U.S. Steel announcement are dwarfed by the number of people who aren't. So even if every steel worker and coal miner in Pennsylvania voted for Donald Trump in 2020, they still couldn't do anything to help win an election when they are vastly outnumbered by people in Pittsburgh who work in health care or education -- or even by the voters who have never been gainfully employed at all.

No surprise...businesses voting with their feet, cash, and union jobs. When businesses go belly up, who are the democrats going to tax to pay for their stimulus packages, cushy govt. jobs, unemployment benefits, embezzling schemes, and fraudulent voters and schemes?

Well, I say, good!

Cars shouldn’t be made of steel. Wood would be much better.

What’s that stuff they make slot-cars with” “Zectron?” (or something) Slot cars crash at speed and no damage is ever done! Maybe polyethelene — but that come from evil oil.

Carbon fibre, maybe, but that might also be messy, environmentally.

Perhaps body panels could be made from woven plant matter — weeds, maybe — or maybe used corn stalks. Woven like a fabric and soaked in glue.

Yeah. That’s the ticket...
