Try paying people a decent wage and see how fast those get filled.

How about paying what the market will bear? Government interference in the market (i.e. paying wages for no work) is creating a worker shortage. Remove this deformation and the market will set wages appropriately. Unskilled labor will be paid according to their limitations until they acquire skills, just as more highly skilled workers merit higher pay.

Yep, you and others with similar posts, nail it. I saw a sign in Walmart the other day, hiring new employees starting at $16.50 an hour. Just four years ago my wife was paid less than that as a dental assistant. Hell, I am close to retire and if I get really bored after I do, for $16.50 an hour I might go stock shelves three days a week.

Minimum wage jobs aren’t supposed to be a career job.

Democrats have said that companies aren’t offering high-enough wages or subsidized childcare programs,

sound just like a democrat now don't you?

what’s really funny about that analogy is most employers are offering at least that much or more.

Why work? There’s no reason to go to work when you get the same amount sitting at home.

It is really important to keep in mind this extra $1200 per month is temporary. Which means it is an artificial bubble in the labor market.

It won’t break squat. Why? Because it is an artificial wage bubble.

What will happen is employers will automate or hire people to do the jobs Americans refuse to do.

And man oh man I heard that line several decades ago.

Here it is, “As President Bush himself said last March (2007), the United States needs a temporary guest-worker program that would “match willing foreign workers with willing American employers to fill jobs that Americans will not do.”

Or use the democrat plan, import and hire more criminal aliens.

Hells bells, lets bring in half of Mexico and South America.

Minimum wage jobs aren’t supposed to be a career job.

What constitutes a 'minimum wage job' in your opinion?

Please be patient with our employees. We are understaffed as no one wants to work.

Any idea what kind of salary they were paying?

What will happen is employers will automate or hire people to do the jobs Americans refuse to do.

Then why are they whining that they can't hire anyone? Why aren't they instead automating or hiring those "people to do the jobs Americans refuse to do"?

I bet they won’t have any trouble getting illegals to drive gasoline tanker trucks for big bucks?

Butthead Biden was just on TV blaming businesses for people not going back to work. He says they aren't paying them enough!!
How rich is that after he did everything he could to destroy them financially!! The hypocrisy is beyond belief.

Reading through the comments here, it appears there is either much disinformation among FReepers, or there be trolls among us. In most parts of the country, “minimum wage” is rising to high levels. Employers are pay $10 - $17 an hour for inexperienced warm bodies to hire on to jobs they typically would be paying $9 an hour, or less, but with government “incentives” people can make more to stay home and not work. The old welfare trap. Would some of YOU like to pay $17 an hour, or even $9/hr, to someone who has never washed a dish in his life, or cooked a hamburger according to your set expectations, to do either (keeping in mind that you will have to spend time to show him, over and over, how to do the job?) If you own a business, you’re soon going to have to raise all your prices, to account for your increased costs, all for some 16 year old who only shows up when he feels like it, doesn’t want to work weekends, or you catch smoking weed out behind the dumpster? And who has also figured out he can scrape by or even live comfortably, for a 16 year old, and only work 16-20 hours a week. Or even some adults.

The businesses that plead for workers are DEFINITELY NOT the engineering companies. I know plenty of engineers and scientists looking for work. Asking for resumes but NOT hiring.
