"Homemade potato chips are easy to make and delicious."

They're implying that there'll be no potatoes.

metmom :"Too much dependence on computers.
Good preppers would have stuff that’s mechanical and not computer chip dependent."

(from the article):" farm equipment manufacturers have halted shipments to dealers because they don’t have the chips to put in the equipment…"

Now fill in the underlined blank space listed above in the article with :
new cars and automotive industry
p.c. computer manufacturers
internet ISP's, telecommunications
machining and tool and die shops
mining and ore production
electrical power generators and distribution
Etc., etc., etc., etc.

Now,.. realize that most of these electronic parts and chips are fabricated in Taiwan and you can see the importance of a free Taiwan to the electronics world.
Also, a free Taiwan represents an international port that would prevent any Chinese military and commercial expansionism.
Just as we have learned our lesson about having a singular source for most of our American prescriptive medication coming from a single source,
so also should we learn that concentrated production of any one product is totally dependent on the supply chain being meticulously maintained and remain secure.

I agree with metmom, too much dependence on computers. I have non electrical and non computer dependent alternatives for things that I consider a necessity. Such as cooking and grinding wheat.

I keep at least a year’s supply of coffee on hand at all times. I have a mandolin that slices really thin, and can make my own chips if I have too, but I can’t grow coffee beans in Mo.

I hate my newer van - dang computers are a pain. My older 1996 van-was better, but now the ignition switch needs replacing, and we’ve been waiting months for the replacement.

Probably need to get a bicycle or something. Ha.

I grow my own potatoes. And beets make a terrific chip too.

Mr mm is looking for a new chain saw and even those are coming with computer chips.

There was some out there without them and he’s getting one of them.

So I just checked out the new specials in this weeks grocery ads. Chicken qtrs. (thighs and legs) are $1.18/lb. - last year they were regularly 49 cents/lb.

All of the other meats and poultry are at least 2 bucks/lb. more than they were.

However, beef has been on sale at the local Hannaford’s for some really good discounted prices.

Got my grocery order open in another window...just added coffee. ;)

NONE of you will want to be around me if I run out of coffee!

I can live without potato chips, though I planted enough seed potatoes last week to yield 500 pounds if all goes well. ;)

I bought chicken leg quarters (20 lbs) at Walmart yesterday for $0.69 a pound. I bake it and give a (de-boned) leg quarter to each of my dogs daily.

When I first started doing this (20+ years ago) they were $0.19 a pound.

All our factories run on chips... Just in time and airy... that defines first world manufacturing.

I got an air fryer and a clothes dryer that don’t have chips... Tried to find a washing machine without them and couldn’t find a high rated one...

The cheapest chicken available at our Walmart 2 days ago was $1.58 for the whole chicken.

I had been buying leg quarters as well as chicken breasts when on sale and canning them when they were cheap. I wanted to can some more, but nothing was cheap.

So maybe next week they’ll have some cheap ones.

Maybe I should grow my own. It’s a little late, but our summers are long.
