A mass grave containing the remains of 215 children has been found in Canada at a former residential school set up to assimilate indigenous people.

The children were students at the Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia that closed in 1978.

The discovery was announced on Thursday by the chief of the Tk'emlups te Secwepemc First Nation.

Over what time period did these people die?

What was the cause of the death?

There are many questions that can be asked, but instead on the radio I’m hearing here that white people are evil and they are using this to divide us even more.

They won’t be happy until we’re at each other’s throats so they can advance unimpeded on their agendas.

Yeah the articles on this discovery are all very short on details. It seems that many of the deaths were from tuberculosis or other natural causes over the course of decades.

They were indigenous children found in deep graves at the schools they were sent to in order to convert them from their beliefs to Christianity. They were in supposedly “Christian” schools. It is another horrific case of evil being carried out in the name of Christianity. Sadly, the Christian faith will bear the brunt of this crime rather than the evil behind it.

So an average of around 3 a year? And starting in the1890s? Child death from disease wasn’t exactly unknown back then. They want to act like this is the Third Reich.

Idiots.

I am very sorry for each child.

Perhaps they were all abused or neglected to death as implied.

Or perhaps it is a graveyard the school made and used and did nothing wrong.

We don’t know. It is wrong to act as though these poor kids were all tortured. They may have had tb or scarlet fever or rubella or whatever.

Wait until we find out and then get outraged.

Kamloops Indian Residential School was the largest in the residential system. Opened under Roman Catholic administration in 1890, the school had as many as 500 students when enrolment peaked in the 1950s. The central government took over administration of the school in 1969, operating it as a residence for local students until 1978, when it was closed.

Even before I knew who ran the school, I knew.

The school was there for some 200 years, and prior to the discovery of antibiotics, infant and child mortality was enormous. I am involved with an historic cemetery that closed at the end of the 19th century and we have a huge number of children buried there, certainly by today’s standards.

Remember, even measles was a deadly disease in those days, in addition, of course, to diphtheria, whooping cough and the bane of institutions, tuberculosis. And any cut or burn that became infected was also dependent entirely on the strength of the individual to resist the infection, since there was literally nothing else.

I know you may hate Christianity, but this is not something you can blame on it.

The school opened in 1893. It closed in 1978. So, the deaths likely occurred over 85 years.

It appears there were hundreds of students at the schools, and most of the deaths were from tuberculosis between 1893 and 1950.

In one school, from 1884 to 1890, 40% of the students died!

This is horrific. There is no good excuse for hundreds of secret burials at a small school.

The Canadian government kidnapped these kids and forced them into what was a government reeducation camp.

Just what is it you knew? That high rates of infant mortality were common in the 19th and early years of the 20th century?

Its the Problem with Canada’s flirtation with heavy handed government programs. I’m not saying the USA is any better, but Canada went through lockdowns in a hard way this past year, and that is a symptom of their desire for big government programs without process on why there should be human rights limitations and considerations.

I believe that TB rates are high among indigenous communities. It would likely have been true in the past as well even in those who were not in residential schools. That is what should be compared.

With a name like National Truth and Reconciliation Commission, It is hard to know how accurate the graphic is.

"A mass grave containing the remains of 215 children"

A mass grave indicates they were buried all at once. There are likely other graves. So 215 is not the total death count. The burial of 215 children was not remarkable enough to merit a marker.

Another poster cites one of these government schools with a 40% death rate.

Hundreds of Secwepemc children attended the school, many forcibly removed from their homes following the introduction of mandatory attendance laws in the 1920s. Children who attended the school were not allowed to speak their native Secwepemctsin language and were whipped for using it. The school was featured in the 1962 Christmas-themed film Eyes of the Children. Produced by George Robertson, the film followed 400 students as they prepared for Christmas and aired on the CBC on Christmas Day. At one point, it was the largest Canadian residential school. Canadian politician Leonard Marchand was among the many students to have attended the school. Another was George Manuel, who said his three strongest memories of the school were: "hunger; speaking English; and being called a heathen because of my grandfather."

On December 24, 1924, the girls' wing of the school was destroyed by a fire, forcing 40 students into −10 °C (14 °F) weather in only their night clothes. Three years later, in 1927, a report outlining the conditions at the school concluded that the poor construction of buildings at the school led to "numerous infections, colds, bronchitis, and pneumonia" during the previous winter.

Not sure if it is the same author, but Susan Rosenthal is a big socialist name and appears to be into something similar to Critical Race Theory.

Here is a link to the Canadian report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

It is an official document of the Canadian Government.
