I know these are commercial boats, but I’ve been out on several charters over the past 9 months, and pretty much as soon as you are out of the harbor, nobody gives a damn about masks. I suspect the crews of most commercial boats will be the same.

While the cat is long since out of the bag. It was through ports that the Chinese spread this virus to most countries. Faroe Islands, The Maldives, and the Canary Islands all got the virus early last year, as did most ports that dealt with Chinese vessels. Besides Chinese students, it was the world wide system of ports that China used to spread the virus to every corner of the globe.

That being said. I am not sure there is any use for masking the fishermen now. Nor do I believe masks were ever useful.

I’m sitting here on my (Sail) boat in a commercial fishing port in Southeast Alaska. Looking around at neighboring boats and shooting the breeze with passing F/V captains and crews on the floats...

I believe that Alaska commercial fishing is one of, if not the most dangerous job in America. Anything that limits movement or awareness of a fisherman is risking his life. The nature of the job requires men who are risk takers. Of course they won’t wear the stupid masks.
