California is adopting former Donald Trump's plan to thin out the state's 33 million acres of forests with controlled burns and raking the woodland floor - after state officials essentially laughed off the former president's idea a few years ago.
Trump had suggested in 2018 that the Golden State start sweeping its forest floors of debris that often aids in the spread of wildfires.
But by Aug. 2020, at the peak of the state's wildfire season, his suggestion became an ultimatum when he withheld wildfire financial aid on the basis of California's failure to clear its forests of dead trees, branches and leaves, Politico reported at the time.
Now, California is putting Trump's plan into practice statewide as groups of 12-person crews set about a $500 million effort to thin the state's forests with controlled burns and sweeping the forest floors of pines, redwoods and firs, according to a recent Bloomberg report.
'I see again the forest fires are starting,' Trump said at the 2020 rally in Pennsylvania. 'They’re starting again in California. I said, you gotta clean your floors, you gotta clean your forests — there are many, many years of leaves and broken trees and they’re like, like, so flammable, you touch them and it goes up (in flames).'
'Maybe we’re just going to have to make them pay for it because they don’t listen to us,' he added at the time.

They’ve been thinning trees and brush nonstop up here in Paradise and MAGAlia. I still see the occasional Trump Won bumper sticker.
Give Biden/Newsom credit.
Why do I think someone will make some big bucks off this...and it won't be the Owl.
We know how to reforest properly...to put in breaks...This is not rocket science stuff.
Revive the CCC camps.
$60/hr for the lowest paid ones? Will it be like road crews where three guys stand around and watch one guy work?
Forest management, the economy, the pandemic, foreign trade, infrastructure, immigration, you name it. The left would denounce the most sound policies, just because it came from Trump. They would litterally renounce long and deeply held beliefs to avoid agreement with him.
Remember those kids in the neighborhood who had to be right about everything or they would take their ball and go home?
Those kids grow up, physically. But mentally, they're still the same spoiled, obstinate jerks. Tens of millions of them.
While I applaud California for coming to its senses, I just wonder where they will get the money.
California is BROKE, BROKE, BROKE
Florida has been doing controlled burns for weeks now.......more than I ever remember
We had a huge fire in 1998
TRump should have praised Obamacare
For what?
The dailymail.UK is not a Trump supporter but it does print actual news. I doubt we will see a similar headline in any propaganda media in the USA.
Trump was right, again.
The most disgusting part of all this treason, is that the lefturds, along with the GOP Never-Trumpers were OK with the continued, even accelerated destruction of America, SOLELY BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT CONTROL HIM.
Sick. Treasonous. Hang them ALL.
Hmm. Now that they don’t have republicans to blame? Trump to blame?
For what? Avoiding inevitable blame? They would not have done this if Republicans were in power
“TRump should have praised Obamacare”
?
Instead of spending half a billion dollars that they don’t have.....
How about letting some logging companies go in, and under specific guidelines for thinning the trees but still preserving the forest (no clear-cutting), let them take the trees for lumber, and then clear some of the shrubbery and rake the floor in return for the free trees?
The other myth that gets a lot of mileage is that "99% of the forests are federal". That's BS. California is 100 million acres and CalFire is responsible for 31 million acres.
I remember my vacation in 1971, visited the old home place in NE New Mexico. After which I went down Hwy 14 through Cerillios and Madrid where I camped out way east of the highway.
From my rough camp, I had a great view of the Pecos Wilderness as it burned.
