Dr Anthony Fauci has again claimed that people who criticize him for his COVID-19 'flip-flopping' are actually condemning science itself.

The White House coronavirus tsar struck a cranky tone in an upcoming New York Times podcast interview, where he claimed any changes in his recommendations were solely based on evolving data as the COVID crisis continued.

Fauci said: 'It is essential as a scientist that you evolve your opinion and your recommendations based on the data as it evolves...

The problem with a novel virus pandemic is we really don’t have the data until the virus spreads considerably and starts to kill enough people to analyze. If we wait too long to reduce spread, it may be too late and result in a catastrophic pandemic scenario. Where every hospital is overwhelmed due to exponential spread. In some areas, we did come very close even with lockdowns.

Because it’s new and spreads fast, the early actions in every pandemic like this are nearly a guess. If your early guess happens to be too optimistic, many more people will die and it may become impossible to limit the spread.

In China we saw homemade videos of people collapsing and extreme lockdowns while CCP was lying about their data.

I don’t disagree with you on that general point, but that's where any actions taken that are clearly irrational on their face destroy the credibility of the government agency imposing them.

Shutting down restaurants and health clubs, for example, while keeping an unsanitized NYC subway system — arguably the worst public place on earth for the transmission of diseases — open destroyed any credibility the city and state of New York ever had in dealing with this threat. And that was way back in the early weeks of the fiasco.

I’m less upset about Fauci than most because I used examples like this to completely dismiss him as an incompetent hack more than 15 months ago. I wouldn’t listen to the dope if he told me that skydiving without a parachute is bad for my health.
