Hmmmm, where I have seen this before. Hmmmmm. Didn’t we have a lot of US forces in the Philippines prior to WWII? That didn’t work out too well as the “combat ready forces” in a peace era were certainly not “combat ready”. The Navy was not ready to keep them supplied, and the factories were not prepared to supply them either. If a war really does happen, those “combat ready forces” will be a minor speed bump, sorry to say.
If memory serves, Australia has about the same land mass as the US but only 10% of the population. I am sure that they could easily create a combined forces base somewhere on the North side. Perhaps even two or three.

The entirety of Wake Island is a US National Wildlife Refuge with only enough infrastructure to support the caretakers and their seasonal staff.
Besides the instant environmental lawsuits that would happen it is close to 5,000 miles from Taiwan.
Okinawa is less than 500 miles from Taiwan and would send quite the message to the Chicoms were it to be used as the FOB.
