Biden, Schumer push to advance elections overhaul after GOP blocks bill
NY Post ^ | 06/23/2021 | Emily Jacobs

President Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer are vowing to press forward after Republicans blocked Democrats’ sweeping elections bill, which was largely seen as a symbolic base-rallying gesture designed to show pushback on GOP state election reforms.

In a statement after the upper chamber of Congress failed to bring the For the People Act up for debate, Biden pledged that the fight to expand voting rights was “far from over.”

They just need to wait until Flimsey Grahamnesty, Micro Rubio, John Cornyn, John Hoeven and the rest of the Bush League Republican Senators give them a permanent majority with amnesty for illegal aliens.

Get the decoder ring.

“Voter rights” = voter fraud

Back in the ‘60s there was a speed-reading course by Evelyn Wood. I took it. At my best I could read 5000 words a minute with about 95% accuracy. At my fastest I was spending more time turning the pages than reading them. I was far from the fastest in my class. Made studying for finals a snap. I could read the entire reading requirement for a course while waiting a half hour for the final.

It does work, it can be done and there are people who still do this. Congressional leadership should hire some speed readers just to make sure such nonsense doesn’t keep happening.

I’m intrigued with speed-reading. Years ago I bought a “photo-reading” course and soon concluded that it was snake oil. Does the Evelyn Wood course have any validity to it?

Dems are gaslighting and throwing some red meat to their base. Dems could just get rid of the filibuster and ram this through. Are they? Nope.

There are bills that can pass even if they stink like feminist underwear.

Any bill that robs the states of their election oversight is bound to die. It’s unconstitutional, and the states are not going to roll over.

Long list of State bills introduced that would do much of the same.

I can only give you my experience. I took the course. It basically requires you to use your hand or the fingers of your hand, to set a pace that your eyes follow. You start sweeping your hand across each line. The instructors can tell when you’re doing it wrong if your hand slows down, stops and speeds up. The point is to keep your hand going at a steady pace and force your eyes to keep up.

This method alone can easily double or quadruple reading speed because it forces you to stop reading certain words once or twice, which is what happens unconsciously while you read.

The real breakthrough in speed happens when you stop ‘calling out the words in your mind’. The Wood method claims that this isn’t necessary. Your brain does not require you to ‘say the word to yourself’ to understand what it means. The example they used is ‘You don’t have to say to yourself ‘Stop’ when you see a stop sign—you understand what it means without saying it to yourself.

I can understand why many think it is a bit of snake oil and that you are only ‘skimming’ across the words, but even out of practice, I can still easily read at 1500 words a minute and if I were to really get back into it maybe get back to around 4000 wpm.

The technique is great for getting information into one’s brain. Science books, history books, long-winded bills, that sort of thing. I don’t recommend it for literature, unless you are taking a lit course.

There was a protest here in Phoenix yesterday to end the filibuster. It was outside of Sinema's Phoenix office. 10 people arrested. Bunch of useful idiots, and I mean idiotas!

Several ads running on local stations here railing about voter suppression and disenfranchising voters.

Why would they be doing this if it is dead in the water? Won't they just put a different wrapper on it? They're nasty people!

Have you seen H.R. 1? Good Lord.

Schumer just lost a cloture vote without gaining a single republican. I wonder how this issue isn’t considered ‘dead’ for this senate session? Are they going to try an amendment to a budget reconciliation bill or some other unsavory maneuver?

Great, I'll look into it. Always have lots of technical and current events reading to do.

I also want to finish reading How to Read a Book, by Mortimer Adler and Charles Van Doren, if you can imagine that.

I met a GENUINE idiot in a craft store yesterday. Her deficit of IQ points was truly frightening to me—in that she has a vote. I mentioned to her that the AZ forensic audit was finding a LOT of fraud. She was horrified—not that the Biden DOJ was trying to quash the audit, but muttered something like, “Good—it’s illegal to investigate the vote. The government should stop it!” I was so stunned at this utter stupidity and ignorance I nearly swooned right where I stood. This woman should not be voting, and it chills me to the bone to know that millions just as stupid and ignorant as her ARE voting.

Without them, The View and the network news would not have any viewers.

It is very good for that kind of reading, unless the material is so technical that you have to stop reading to let yourself understand what is being presented.

They started us off with books far below our reading level. Get some books that have no vocabulary that you have trouble with, and then just pace yourself. One or two seconds a line to start with.

They built up our speed by simply doubling and redoubling our pace. Of course at the end of a session we were going much faster than we could read, but the interesting thing was we were getting some info into our brains even at the fastest of speeds.

Then they’d have us pick our own pace. It was always faster than what we started the day with. Newspapers with narrow columns and easy vocabulary can be read very quickly. My wife, who is quite the reader is always frustrated because I can basically just ‘look’ at an article and have it read. I also could do this with my students’ papers—even the handwritten ones, which made grading homework pretty quick.

Again my original point is not to push the method or the course but to encourage Congressional leaders to hire people, preferably with a legal background who have this skill. It would be nice to have a couple of people working for Congress who actually have read everything in a bill.
