A fictional war scenario showcases how emerging technological capabilities could be used in a future Sino-U.S. military confrontation over Taiwan.
The question as to whether Taiwan can or should be defended by the United States in the event of Chinese military aggression has caused considerable debate in recent months within the U.S. defense and foreign policy communities. Discussions on this subject have been made more difficult as a result of emerging military technologies, especially in artificial intelligence (AI), cyber, robotics, and hypersonic systems, and questions about how they will impact both the quantitative and qualitative cross-strait military balance between China and Taiwan, as well as between China and the United States.

When Red China decides it’s time to take over Taiwan they won’t need AI, they’ll just energize the sleeper agents they’ve been putting in place and switch the old regime off and salute their new masters.
Agreed, Taiwan will fall from within not as easily as Hong Kong but I don’t think it will be some spectacular naval affair.
And giant snails could eat all of China.
There should be NO QUESTION: For a country which has refused to adequately invest in its defenses,
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
When was the last time our woke military won a war? Perhaps that needs to be discussed before defending any one.
“And giant snails could eat all of China.”
I think they were experimenting on mutant giant snails in Wuhan. /s
I must wonder if the UFOs were AI drones.
I suspect Taiwan has quite a few agents on the CCP’s side. It’s likely that if a war starts, there will be significant sabotage on the mainland. When the CCP abrogated the one country, two systems fiction, it was a wakeup call to all those in Taiwan who believed they could reengage with the mainland and maintain their political and social freedoms.
It’s actually not against international law to mine an area so long as those mines are not active. Theoretically, Taiwan could have already mined all the Chinese ports and waters and the mines could be acoustically activated when needed. That would probably stop any significant sea approach. It would, depending on where they are, put economic and social pressure on the CCP if all imports and exports were shut off by mines. If that happened, the mainland would be in serious trouble in just weeks. Also, I hope Taiwan has invested heavily in drones as those could cheaply take the fight to the mainland.
Regardless, lots of people, mostly Taiwanese, will die. I doubt the Biden administration would go their aid. If Trump were still in office I don’t think the CCP would dare even try because...Orange Man Unknown, Scary Quantity. Because Trump knows if you look like you’re itching for a war, you probably won’t have to fight it. Not like, “Hey, here’s fifteen areas of critical infrastructure we don’t want you to hit.” (Jesus! Who would be so stupid...oh.)
The Taiwanese are far better prepared than most people seem to think. Maybe spend some time researching the subject before making broad pronouncements based on ChiComm misinformation.
The Taiwanese I know are far more patriotic than your average American. They are willing to fight.
Taking a defended island is really hard. It was hard in WWII, and it is even harder now. Landing craft are still slow and vulnerable, but the accuracy and firepower of shore based defenses are much advanced.
China knows that we can NUKE THEM to next Sunday at any second so they better be careful
Now under this pathetic drooling idiot of course…
Stopped reading... I've been reading Science Fiction for the past sixty years of my life. Starting with "From The Earth To The Moon and A Trip Around It." I only read hard Science Fiction.
To suggest China has underwater robots capable of 500 miles of independent operations is ludicrous.
“...they’ll just energize the sleeper agents they’ve been putting in place...”
Do you know how many China King restaurants we have in America? Do a search with map for your neck of the woods.
Just sayin...
Taiwan will be invaded by the Butchers of Beijing before January 2025. And those butchers know that nobody will do a damn thing about it.
“Agreed, Taiwan will fall from within not as easily as Hong Kong but I don’t think it will be some spectacular naval affair.”
Hong Kong didn’t fall from within.
It fell when UK illegally “gave” it to the ChiComs.
Thanks free traitors. I hope that $.10 you saved on communist made paint brushes makes up for what you did to this country and its allies.
