Critics slammed The New York Times on Sunday for an article that suggested the American flag has become a symbol of divisiveness.
The New York Times published an article on Saturday titled: 'A Fourth of July Symbol of Unity That May No Longer Unite.'
In the article, Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Maslin Nir examined how the American flag 'once a unifying symbol' has become a divisive symbol in the United States along political party lines.

Sure doesn’t show my allegiance to the Democrats.
If America is so bad:
1). Why are millions of “people of color” risking their life’s and physical safety to get to the southern border and cross into this country illegally. Why are millions of other people around the world seeking to enter the United States legally?
2). Why are very few people in America, especially those in groups considered historically disadvantaged or oppressed, leaving the country seeking a better life elsewhere? Particularly when the cost of transportation to any nation on the planet affordable to even the poorest citizens. If the US was such a terrible place to live wouldn’t the number of refugees trying to escape be so large the United Nations, international relief agencies, and social justice groups would have significant operations in place to assist oppressed people trying to escape from the US?
3). Has it occurred to any of the alleged oppressed people in the US, and their progressive advocates, that even poor people on government assistance in America have a higher standard of living than 90% of the people on this planet?
They do not believe in the U.S. And in their coup we are now Rainbow Flag Nation.
They fly it at embassies and other buildings.
They will try to phase out Old Glory.

Not flying it is divisive.
I know a combat veteran officer retired former commander he was going to church this AM, in our Red state, wearing a red white and blue tie. He asked his wife if he’d get hatred for wearing it. She said ‘maybe not I guess’. Not, ‘if you don’t defend the flag in the community, who will, you fraction of a man’

Then fly your flag every day, and your neighborhood will be nicer.
I remember after the 9/11 attacks there was a flag on every mailbox in our neighborhood. Then as the weeks went by the flags became torn and tattered, fell on the ground, got blown out into the street, etc. It was mostly an empty gesture, even to people who didn’t openly hate our country. It all goes back to the schools and what they no longer teach about the greatness of our country.
