Here here! I agree that us Americans should be celebrating it. It’s a shame we live in a world where American success is knee-jerkingly vilified.
I really do not care how people spend their money. I am not concerned about alternative uses (poverty, world hunger, etc.) of their money. I do have a problem celebrating those that are global corporatists. They achieved their wealth not through capitalism, but through fascism. This is not a victory for capitalism. These people are all for controlling the freedoms and liberties of others for their benefit. They care not for small businesses and those that want to achieve on an equal playing field.
They spent real money, employing real people, with and without government help.
Without the explorers of any kind, Columbus doesn’t sail, Lewis & Clark don’t trek, etc, we all just wait to die.
God didn’t put us here to just sit and twiddle. The most significant thing that happened could be that young man on the Bezos flight went into space. Everything starts with a first step.
Jobs are created when billionaires buy and play with expensive toys. IOW, the pie gets bigger.
When the first commercial air transport started, some of those trips cost, in today’s money...$50,000.
Incidentally, Covid and other associated factors are going to cut down on the amount of first class and business class trips. The downside is, those two classes subsidize economy class seats. The fewer top level seats sold, the more the economy class will cost. So, as business class declines, so will the cost of economy class go up, meaning fewer people will fly. Hopefully, this won’t put the entire industry into a downward spiral.
The point is, what is only available to the uber-wealthy today, may lead to greater access for the middle class...eventually. But first, we’ll have to stop government from killing the economy every time it looks like a conservative will win the presidency.
As far as I know since mankind started going to space in 1961, only two billionaires have been to space, out of hundreds that have gone to space. So why can’t billionaires go to space like everyone else? Its their money. They can use it to go to space if they like. I don’t see any problem here.
Why billionaires soaring into space fools with money are always an easy mark what is the point of 3 minutes in space just to say you did it.
What a dull life.
A joyride into space? How does that not affect the environment if a simple cow fart does?
Looks as though Beso purposely designed it to look exactly like a penis. Can’t wait to see Branson’s and Musk’s ships. Congratulate to each however. Aspirational, inspiring, and curious as to where this will all lead. Hope it is a positive freedom oriented direction and not the usual totalitarian BS we’ve all been dealing with progressively over the last 50 years.
We must celebrate it because should America and capitalism fall, the only place left to go is Up.
What I find humorous is that the “shape” of the Rocket and Capsule have completely overshadowed the successful Engineering that made this possible.
The Booster returned to Earth in a controlled fashion and landed successfully to be used again. The Occupants inside the Capsule returned safely. Everything the Engineers could have hoped for worked out without a hitch.
Nowadays there seems to be no appreciation for what we have and what is possible. Open the Tap and you instantly have clean water which is safe to drink. The Toilet Flushes, the food in the Refrigerator is cold, the Shower Water is always Hot and if you need anything you can drive your Car to the Store and get it.
The (whatever cause) Protesters out in the Streets doing what Morons do should be on their Knees thanking the Good Lord for all they have been given by past Generations and having the good fortune of being born in this great Country.
Rant off. Oh yeah, it’s Bezo’s Money and he can do with it what he wants, including giving $100 Million to that Idiot Van Jones.
I’ve already wondered which rich folks and/or celebrities will be on the first doomed flight.....
