Simone Biles Withdraws From Individual All-Around Competition

Simone Biles, the superstar gymnast from the U.S., will not participate in the individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Games and will instead focus on her mental well-being, USA Gymnastics said in a statement early Wednesday.

The decision comes a day after she pulled out of the team all-around competition.

Jade Carey, who finished ninth in qualifying, will take Biles’ place in the individual all-around competition.

"After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games," USA Gymnastics said in a statement posted on Twitter Wednesday night. "We wholeheartedly support Simone's decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many."

The statement said Biles will be evaluated daily to see if she can "participate in next week’s individual event finals."

This is what I am hearing, that the judges were planning to underscore her because she was so much better than the others. So she called their bluff and quit. Reminds me of the Olympics where the French judge voted for a favorite instead of the best.

I’ve watched her routines from qualifying for the US team through her final vault. She isn’t as good as she was in the past.
Powerful, yes. That lady is a rocket. What she lacks from previous performances is precision. It’s like she’s overdoing things by just a touch. Over rotation on almost every apparatus. Flying and sliding off the mat on floor.
One thing she doesn’t have is grace. I was stunned to see how happy and beautiful the Russian girls looked on the floor. How elegant they managed to make the beam performances...
My point is: They don’t have to pad the scores of her competitors. Frankly, Jade looked better to me in the qualifiers. I was stunned at the score that eliminated her.

No, that’s what is being said. She was going to be underscored because she was so much better than the others. You know the judges are crooked in the Olympics.

She was not going to be underscored. She wasn’t underscored 5 years ago when she won 4 Olympics golds.

I know, it’s crazy. I wonder if the press would just stop, for a moment even, and consider what it would be like to be followed around day and night by camera wielding organized teams of crazy stalker people eternally on the alert for any possible “scoop.” If they want to honestly talk about mental health issues, talk about that.”

I’m sure Mike Tirico will get right on that.

No, I don’t remember hearing about that TV commercial. I don’t watch TV, though.

I think something serious is going on. Besides Simone Biles, look at what happened to Naomi Osaka in recent months, LeBron James for the last 18 months, and Kyrie Irving for a couple of years. Is the pressure of supporting Leftist causes like Black Lives Matter starting to completely overwhelm them mentally? 🤔

Michael Phelps went through all that for 5 Olympics and 23 golds. I don't recall him withdrawing from events citing “mental stress”.

No doubt about it - she finally snapped under all the pressure.

Why are so many here so quick to criticize this gymnast? She’s an incredible athlete...

Because she's a arrogant, selfish, lefty, HOLE who openly supports BLM riots and is a huge Collin Kaperdick fan... then, in addition to all that, she made a spectacle of herself by quitting on her team and country.

Sorry you're so fkn slow this morning - glad to help.

The sad part of this is, despite all her accomplishments, gold medals, gymnastic moves named after her, Biles will be principally remembered for quitting on her team, family & friends, country, and herself in the most important moment of her athletic career.

Think for what gymnast Kerri Strugg is remembered: vaulting and landing on a bad leg as the USA women won the team gold.

This is going to hurt Biles’ “brand” — no more talk of GOAT and likely a lot sponsors not wanting their products & services to be associated with a quitter.

I’m not sure why her teammates would be upset over her quitting. It sounds like she wasn’t performing anywhere near her best anyway … so they were probably better off without her on the floor.

Want to know who I blame for this, China.

The Kung Flu Furstercluck has screwed up more things that we can ever imagine.

It is responsible for putting Joseph Stolen and his Party into Power and has cascaded into every part of our Lives.

I know nothing of this young woman. I can’t read her mind. I believe her decision came after her realization that despite all her training, she was making rookie errors that were not the types of things an Olympian level Athlete would make.

Had the Olympics gone forward last year, I am confident we wouldn’t be having this conversation. These people train to compete in a specific period of time. They continue to age, and that is their worst enemy.

The Kung Flu has done more damage to our Country and the world than we can ever imagine. By all accounts it’s worse than January 6th although the DEMONCRATS would disagree.

She still gets whatever medal the team wins though.

Her scores were still good. If she stayed in and won a medal, she’d be praised, not criticized.
