It doesn’t usually cost the birthmother $$ to do that. In fact, in some cases living expenses for birthmother are paid by adopting parents for a period of time.

Plus, since adoption is expensive, those children are very unlikely to end up in foster care.

What went wrong. Did anybody in her religious circles explain just what sin is, and what the reality of abortion is all about?
I'm a faithful Catholic and there is no offense taken; your point is well taken. Nobody agonizes over the dismal state of Catechesis more than faithful Catholics do. I am lucky to be in a solidly orthodox Catholic parish and diocese, but most Catholics are not so lucky (and, honestly, the difference is made at the parish and diocesan level, not what the Pope and the rest of the Church do). I (and many others) do what we can. I can honestly say that if a Catholic is ignorant of his Faith, it was not because of me and others who work tirelessly to make a difference.
Regarding Simone, the girl is simply ignorant and uncatechized and more in tune with the deceptions of the world than with the teachings of the Church. She is typical if her generation (and the generation who properly failed to catechise her).
I feel another Greta Thunberg moment coming on.
