Texas gubernatorial candidate Allen West delivered good news today for his campaign, but more importantly for the honor of his wife, Angela. The toxicology report filed following her arrest for DWI demonstrates her blood was completely clean with no traces of alcohol or drugs in her system at the time of her arrest.

Someone needs to get sued. Arresting someone for DUI who has nothing at all in their system - not a borderline case, NOTHING in their system - when their husband is running for office smells very ripe.
The clean toxicology results are posted on some conservative blog that nobody has ever heard of.

Reiterating what I said on the initial news of her arrest; NEVER do a ‘field sobriety test’!!! It is only the Officer’s opinion and he is the one who made the initial stop! Breath analyzer or blood test ONLY!!!
Im not commenting on this particular case, but you don’t need to be on drugs to be cited for a DUI. You only need to demonstrate an inability to control the vehicle. There are a wide latitude of circumstances, from medical to anger that would allowvan officer to cite you.

I kind of wonder if there’s dashcam video of the incident, I haven’t seen any.
I would also note that if she was having problems controlling the vehicle, there’s still going to be problems. I wonder if she was afflicted with the common cause - poor driving because she was staring at her cell phone. :P Which some studies show is equally as deadly as DUI.
Mrs West wandered between 2 lanes without signaling on the video released by the Dallas Police Department. She was on the phone while driving. Hang up and drive!
Good news. Too bad the press will report it between the obituaries and classified ads.

Thing is, it is illegal in Texas for a driver to use a handheld phone while in motion. The usual way this goes is the cop can’t see the device use but can see the failure to maintain vehicle control. They pull the car over, the driver has dropped/hidden/tossed the phone away from them to avoid the phone use charge and denies they were using it. Well, if you weren’t using a phone, you must be drunk, so here’s your free DUI exam and charge.

Nope, see my last. I suspect that in an effort to avoid Texas texting-while-driving and cell phone use tickets, she talked herself into a DUI ticket. Pretty stupid.
