Elon Musk has told Tesla employees that the automaker is aiming to release its previously announced $25,000 electric car in 2023.
The CEO hinted that it might not even be equipped with a steering wheel.
At Tesla Battery Day last year, CEO Elon Musk announced that Tesla will be making a $25,000 electric car.
The CEO commented in the announcement:
Tesla will make a compelling $25,000 electric vehicle that is also fully autonomous.
He made it clear that this new price point is achieved through Tesla’s new battery cell and battery manufacturing effort, which could reduce battery costs by over 50%.
The $25,000 Tesla electric car, which is often referred to as the “Tesla Model 2,” has been likened to a new electric hatchback that Tesla has been planning to produce at Gigafactory Shanghai in China and export globally.
Last year, Tesla announced plans to establish a new R&D center in China to build “a Chinese-style” electric car.

What could possibly go wrong?
“The CEO hinted that it might not even be equipped with a steering wheel.”
Wow, man. Cool.
Even Johnny Cab left the human passenger with a means to drive away with steering!

How much will the charging stations cost and how much will electricians charge to install them?
Will there be brake pedals?
No steering wheel. Okaaaaayyyy, how about at least providing a joystick or a tiller? Part of the security of driving a car is hugging that steering wheel and gripping it at the 4 and 8 position...
Which is no longer safe or wise with air-bag equipped vehicles. You have to hold the steering wheel at 2 and 10 position, or when the air bag deploys, it will tear the hide off the inside of your arms.
The steering wheel will be a $50,000 option.
Translation here is that Tesla will build a scaled back shrimp-mobile in China for the Chinese market. EVs are selling big in China. Chinese will accept such small cars because the Chinese are smaller than Americans. After a few years some cars might be exported to the US. No steering wheel and being autonomous is a load of BS put out there to create a buzz.
Building these cars in China, of course all exclusive Tesla tech will be hacked and stolen within three years.
Only 25K and people expect a steering wheel?
and this would be considered a selling point?
This is why we end up with so many government regulations and laws.
“Lets make a car without a steering wheel.”
No steering wheel......probably a plus since there will be fewer obstructions to un-assing this thing when it catches on fire; just throw the Ken/Barbi remote out the window and go.
A “Chinese style” electric car.
That means a car that will only go where the CCP allows it go go.
It’s Musk’s way of saying, “Thanks for the Flu, Bro!”
If I wanted to drive and electric golf kart, I would take up golf, at least those have steering wheels..
Do not under estimate Musk.....
