Reactions roll in on Florida’s $10 minimum wage
The Capitolist ^ | September 30th 2021 | Jordan Kirkland

Florida’s first incremental increase in the minimum wage went into effect on Thursday, increasing from $8.65 per hour minimum to $10 per hour.

The first in a series of wage hike increases come after Florida voters approved a constitutional amendment backed by Orlando TV attorney John Morgan. The measure was approved via a supermajority vote of 60.8 percent last election cycle, with more than 6.3 million Floridians say they favor a $15 hour minimum wage hike.

Today marked the first step in that process, with the state’s minimum wage set to increase by $1 each year on September 30th, until 2027, when there would be an annual adjustment to the state minimum wage based on increases to the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers.

“We believe wages should be determined by the market, not politics, and that’s clearly what’s been happening as Florida’s economy has opened up. The latest NFIB jobs survey shows a staggering 50% of small businesses nationwide have openings they can’t fill, and while Florida’s minimum is jumping to $10 an hour, our survey shows that 41% of owners nationwide have already begun paying more while another 26% plan to raise wages in the next three months,” said NFIB State Executive Director Bill Herrle.

“Of course, that money has to come from someplace. Raising the starting wage will increase the financial pressure on small businesses that are struggling to get through the pandemic and could end up hurting workers as employers simply try to get by with fewer workers to offset the overall increase in labor costs. “It remains to be seen whether raising the minimum wage will affect Florida’s labor shortage. Our jobs survey showed that 91% of small businesses nationwide with positions to fill had few if any qualified applicants.”

Call the moderator and complain, then suggest only people who live in a state of reference should be allowed to comment!

you obviously don’t realize that what’s on employees paychecks is matched by employers to please federal, state, and local governments...

try running a business sometime and learn how this works...

If they can’t even pay a survivable wage to your employees, they shouldn’t be in business and should probably go find something else to do. I find it odd, the employer is in it for the profits, but those allowing them to make those profits should not expect to survive or live off what they’re paying them. Wow..

“listless , unmotivated workers”

The result of years of PARTICIPATION TROPHIES.

A PAYCHECK is NOT a Participation Trophy.

A cell phone with all the magic accompanying costs isn’t a basic NEED...it is a WANT.

Do you always make reckless, ignorant and baseless comments while pretending to know someone on a personal level, when you have no clue whatsoever about them?

What a fool.

JOB:

A situation where a person trades hours of performing a SKILL that an employer needs done & is willing to pay for according to the LEVEL of SKILL.

It is NOT payment for keeping ignorant ruffians off the street corners & out of the pool halls.

Maybe if your education included spelling, you could earn more—

TRACT homes -——— NOT track homes.

Oh, you found a typo or spelling error to go after! Very impressive. Ya see the tagline?

Btw, I type 117 words per minute and that’s with one hand. Sometimes I get a bit sloppy.

Does this not suggest the recipient of this is someone who can't get off their butt? Try to keep up.

8.65 ? that is crazy how can anyone live on that ?

**************************************

I agree with you.
It would have never made it on the ballot, If they had raised it to a reasonable rate of $11.00 or $12.00. However, business wanted to keep their slave labor rate, and the politicians fell in line. This is the result.

People didn’t want to vote for $15.00, but everyone thought $8.65 was way to low, so they voted for it.

I see, this proves my laziness does it? There it is again, getting personal, making reckless baseless personal comments because you disagree with someone. Funny stuff.
