Would a stringent vaccine mandate help relieve this shortage?

If the Vax Mandate is not stopped it going to get a lot worse.

A lot of truck drivers came out of retirement to drive due to the shortage. The chatter on the trucker websites is a lot of them will quit rather then get the Vax.

I do the grocery shopping for my house (New England area) and it's uncanny - just odd things out of stock for weeks - large gaps on the shelves where product used to be.

Each week it's a little worse.

Of course, we're good for 4 - 6 months without resupply, but don't want that clock to start just yet....

Trump would have had this whole mess fixed in 72 hours.

On the other hand, anything Biden does will only make it worse. We can’t even hope that he will keep things as they are now.

Chewy is out of stock of my dogs prescription dog food.

I have extra, but not that much.

There are places that have it still, and I’m trying to figure out how many months to get.

The various Truckers Associations and thier Unions really are in the Drivers Seat regarding this situation and I wish they would start Acting like it.

Since they are ALL Required to take Random Drug Tests and be entered into the National Clearinghouse database, NOTHING Prevents them from Requiring a CLEAN DRUG TEST FROM EVERY PUBLIC EMPLOYEE in the Cities they Deliver to, and I would include ALL JUDGES AND LAWYERS.

PEE in this Cup, or NO DELIVERIES to your City.

ps, if anyone FAILS the Drug Test there will be an Immediate 909 Restriction put in place for Deliveries in your City, County, State...

Shortage of truck drivers....

Well, forward thinking people said they wanted driverless vehicles. There are thousands of sidelined trucks now.

inability of more would-be and current drivers to pass a drug test

Around 2000 I clearly remember a news story that surveys showed 40% of truck drivers had enough drugs or alcohol in them at any random given time while driving to be legally labelled "impaired."

Doubling the price of diesel and adding a few hundred new pages of regulations should handle the problem... /s

It’s not a “supply chain” problem. It’s a de industrialization and off shoring problem.

Supply chain issue is entirely self inflicted.

I went shopping today and stocked up on some stuff.

Scored big on some boxes of Ball lids and bands for under $4 per box.

I was shocked because I know what the bands and lids go for.

I bought some.😁

Back before white guys were THE problem in the USA Ike (R) signed the Federal Highway Act in 1956 to build the interstate highway system. By 1961 when Ike left office over 10,000 miles of highway had been built and were in use.

A couple of years later JFK (D) said he wanted to put men on the moon by the end of the 60s because it was hard to do. It required finding a bunch of guys who were willing to strap themselves to the top of an explosive and see if they really could survive the ride and then space itself. By the end of the decade a couple of Americans were walking on the moon.

In 2021 we ran out of truckers because of laws that made it expensive and risky to run trucks in California and lavish unemployment benefits made it easier to make your living on the couch. So Biden (D-mentia) had his transportation secretary take a vacation and then lecture us on the importance of gay paternity leave while the rest of the administration tells us there is no fix and it will last at least until next year or longer.

A few days ago a reporter asked Biden's energy secretary what she would do to solve the problem of Americans having to sacrifice because Biden destroyed our energy independence and fuel costs had skyrocketed and she ... laughed in his face and said it was up to OPEC to do it.

American sure has come a long way in the last 50 years.

But wait, Biden said ordinary Americans aren’t smart enough to understand supply chain problems.
