In the early 70s I worked a boys’ juvenile prison (its official name was ‘youth center’. While escapes (runs) weren’t encouraged, they weren’t discouraged either, the idea being that the wayward boys had to deal with their problems and escaping was one method. (I am not making this up). With that in mind the fence around the center was 4-feet high.
Everyone who worked with a ‘cottage’ had to work runs. We’d pile into the state cars and take off after the lad. Except cars were equipped with a system that required you to be buckled up before the car would start. If you did it wrong, everyone would have to get out of the car, re-enter, buckle up, and then, the car might or might not start. Even moving in the seat might cause a failure.
I mean what could go wrong with the new system?
