Minnesota Ex-Officer Who Shot Daunte Wright Plans to Testify at Trial
Newsmax ^ | November 30, 2021

The former Minnesota police officer charged in the April shooting of Daunte Wright, a Black man whose death prompted new protests against police brutality, will testify in her own defense, her attorney said on Tuesday as jury selection began in the manslaughter trial.

Kimberly Potter, a white former officer in Brooklyn Center just north of Minneapolis, has pleaded not guilty to first- and second-degree manslaughter charges. Her lawyers have said Potter, 49, mistakenly discharged her handgun instead of her stun gun at Wright, 20, during a traffic stop.

Her lawyers also have accused the prosecution of disregarding the conduct of Wright, who they have said resisted arrest and attempted to drive away. Potter, a 26-year veteran of the police force, resigned after the incident.

Watched jury selection on Rekeita Law. At this rate....will take days.

Judge has an ASMR voice and will probably put the court to sleep.

Dig “Daunte” up and shoot him in the face a few dozen more times - then sue the POS family who raised him.

Then we’ll have justice.

New rules will be, you are supposed to let them go when they run. Once this new directive is nation wide. there will be no regard for any law officer, and chaos will abound

I don’t know how Minnesota defines it, but that sounds like negligent homicide. My sympathy for her has just gone to zero.

Wear your waders because the tears are going to flow.

But seriously:

“Wright had an open warrant for his arrest related to an aggravated armed robbery, for failure to appear in court, and for charges that he fled from officers and possessed a gun without a permit during an encounter with Minneapolis police in June.”

She screwed up, but his actions brought it on himself. He was a threat to society, and I find it hard to give a f*ck about his death. She’s been fired. Leave it at that.

Unintentional Manslaughter in MN is 2nd Degree Manslaughter. The 1st Degree Manslaughter seems like an overcharge as she clearly shouted "Taser Taser Taser" before shooting.

609.20 MANSLAUGHTER IN THE FIRST DEGREE.

609.205 MANSLAUGHTER IN THE SECOND DEGREE.

My neighbor retired as a police sergeant from a neighboring jurisdiction to Brooklyn Center late last year and keeps in touch with other Minnesota police officers. The consensus is she was negligent and will be found guilty. He said if you are going to use a taser have it out already, not on your duty belt.

Tasers are carried direct opposite of handgun so it’s hard for me to believe she, a veteran officer, wouldn’t know the difference. And surely they have a safety of some sort on the taser that would have alerted her that it’s absense meant she was holding her handgun. But having considered this she did seem genuinely surprised that she had fired her handgun and not the taser as she intended. Tragic accident, no premeditation. Moral to story? Don’t put yourself in a position where a nervous cop feels threatened enough to pull a weapon.

“a white former officer...” Who cares what her nationality is. I don’t. I remember when a BART cop in San Francisco in 1990 accidentally grabbed a gun rather than a taser and killed a young person. Sure, the media broadcast that for months. Moral of the story: just be ethical and don’t force police to subdue you.

Don’t have women cops is the real lesson but can’t say that.

Just wait until they start drafting women into the military.

“Mistook pistol for Taser” is statistically not gender-linked and is pretty evenly divided between men and women.
