Caribbean rules: Never lock your (rental) car or leave anything more valuable than about $5 in there. Especially never leave sunglasses in a visible place.
You’ll only get your window punched out, which you will have to pay for.

The “never lock your car” rule is probably a good one. It would have saved me from having to replace a broken window. But I still would have had to replace a popped ignition.
Anyway, I did follow another good rule: Move out of the city.
