President Biden on Friday paid tribute to Oscar-winning actor Sidney Poitier after news of his death, recognizing him as a trailblazer who “changed the way America saw itself.”

“With unflinching grandeur and poise — his singular warmth, depth, and stature on-screen — Sidney helped open the hearts of millions and changed the way America saw itself,” Biden said in a statement.

“The son of tomato farmers in the Bahamas, Sidney became the first Black man to win the Academy Award for Best Actor — but the trail he blazed extended leaps and bounds beyond his background or profession. He blazed a path for our Nation to follow, and a legacy that touches every part of our society today,” Biden continued.

I really do not give a rats behind what any actor has done or has said.

He prolly remembers Sidney in front of his home on the yard near the front entrance, standing still, and with a cap on his head holding a lantern.

Did Poitier get 10% for the big guy. There is a huge difference here. Poitier was a great actor. Biden is a couple of slices short of a ham sandwhich.

Did he call him clean and articulate, with no noticeable Negro dialect?

Let me guess: ‘I always especially enjoyed two of his movies: ‘ Lillies of the Nile’ and ‘Dirty what do you call it? Twelve. Yeah the Dirty twelve. The way he ran and dropped those M-80s into those round things. Boy that was great.

Sidney Poitier was smart enough to mostly stay out of current social and political wars for the last 30 years.
This, unlike some other big stars from his generation;
i.e. Jane Fonda and Harry Belafonte. Lou Grant was recently ‘granted admission’ into Hades just last summer.

Exactly. He and the Grand Wizard Kleagle Sen. Byrd (and his little dawg “Billie” ...sob) were best of buddies and crooks with common rake off goals for all the years they both were in the demonrat Senate. What a joke of a “testimony” for his newly discovered non-bigoted self (Barack was “clean and well spoken”, and the “convenience stores all run by Indians”).

At least it’s better than having Ralph Northam pay tribute to Poitier.

Does anybody really believe Biden wrote that himself?
